I updated my X8 to android 2.1 today. I had made a backup before updating with myphoneexplorer. I had a wierd issue in 1.6 wherein all my gmail ids were coming into my contacts app as seperate contacts. For eg, I had 400 actual contacts but it showed 400+ 720 contacts ( the rest 720 simply contained name and gmail ids)

is there a setting or sync setting or something which I need to change? This is wierd.

You can manage your phonebook from your computer in your Gmail account. You should see all your contacts there as well. If you want them all in one place, you can move all contacts into the My Contacts.

I have the same problem (I think). I have 9 fields of the same number in every contact. Google contacts has really screwed up my phonebook. Opening a contact is now painfully slow due to this field duplication. Any ideas on how to delete the other 8 field duplicates for each contact?

It was because of google contacts that I was in this problem in the first place.

No way except to do it manually. I spent a long time clearing my phonebook Or try nd restore an older backup which doesn't have these extra fields
