So im looking to connect my Mac to my TV but i have some questions, i have read that a VGA cable cannot do sound. Is this true?

I know i wil have to get a Apple adaptor but can someone say which one?

Back to the sound question will i need a separate cable coming out the jack on my mac and going to the tv or can i do it via the mini display port output?

HDMI does 8 channel sound at 24bit, so anything your MBP can chuck at it for sure..
