Hey guys,
Has anyone tried using the calling cards option in t68i? I tried to use it and put everything all the info, but it did not work. I tried to call internationally, but I got an operator error message. It says that AT&T does not allow calling internationally. Any help guys?
Thanks,
Ron

I'd like to know what a calling card is. I've looked at it on the menus and all, but i don't know what one is or how to use it. I've not seen any info on them in the manual either |

Hey there,
It's on the manual. Try this...Menu > Calls > Time and Cost > Calling Cards
There you'll have an option to choose whether to activate or deactivate your calling card.

Hello guys.
RE: calling cards:
cards you buy at newsagents etc. which make it cheaper for people to call int'l nuimbers.
You buy the card and call a free (or low cost) number through which you call outside your country.
It works this way: Let's say you buy the card for 5$. That is your credit. While you are calling you are paying a local call from your mobile and the credit on the calling card goes as you talk.
It usually is a lot cheaper if you use them.
Hope this is clear enough and useful.

@Girigiom, thats only one type of calling card service. I use calling cards for all my calls from my p800, i also used a t68i for over a year in the UK & the main reason i bought it was for it`s calling card menu.
This is how i use it;
My calling card company is Telco, they give me a 0800****** number(free to call on orange OVP contracts) i have it in my calling card menu so all i have to do is find the contact i want to ring click on it so the number details are on screen then press & hold the yes button, this dials the 0800****** number waits for connection then dials the destination number. (i use the service for ALL my calls as they are charged at less than a standard local landline cost: 1.7p off peak & 2.5p peak) the calling card company don`t charge me for anything to use the service exept the call cost & my provider don`t charge me for the o800 call, they do also offer cheap international calls but i don`t often use it.
The p800 is even better, as i can set it up so everytime i ring a number (phonebook OR manual input) the phone asks me if i want to use (press 1) or not use(press 2) calling cards.
This service has been available in UK for many years & it makes using a mobile cheaper than a landline but due to it`s complex set up many people don`t use it. It saves me around £400 to £500 a year on calls.
Before SE put the calling cards service on their phones i had to dial the 0800****** number then wait for the tone, then put the destination number in via DTMF tones on the key pad manually, so it was impossible to use the phonebook for calls.
That all sounds complicated but in use nobody would even know u were using it, even if they watched you dial.

There is space for 2 numbers in calling cards, one of them is Telco for calling landline numbers from my mobile at the prices quoted on the other post.
Ringing mobiles on my own network is cheaper to NOT use telco. So i use another company called 1tel, they charge 8p a minute at weekends to any mobile from my mobile, but both these companies can`t offer cheaper than about 20p to mobiles in the week.
IMPORTANT you can only benefit from this service if your mobile can ring 0800 numbers for free & that means Orange contracts sims only. Tmobile have stopped giving free 0800 use last year.
CONTACT NUMBERS; Telco 08005941000, 1tel 08009570400

Hey guys,
I was asking how do you use it using your phone. I tried following the manual, but it keeps on giving me this error, "Message GT...". It's calling the international number that I want to dial directly instead of dialing the access number first.

@Crazy, i can`t see how your network could interfere with the calling card setup, try this;
Dial your access number, wait for the prompt then add the destination number using DTMF tones manually, if that wont work & calling card menu use doesn`t work either then your network has doctored the phone, out of interest i did hear that your network managed to stop people from "saving pictures" on wap using the phones built in screen capture by interfering with the menu`s.

Hey pachy,
When I tried to call manyallu, it dialled the access number. It's only when I use calling cards that it does not work. I wonder what am I missing. Anyway, AT&T sux... I want to get rid of this phone. The only thing that's holding me back is the MMS in March (according to rumors..)

@Crazy, when your calling card access number has been typed into theposition in the menu you have to activate that one (theres a choice of two isn`t there) you have to find the contact in the phone book that u want to ring, then press yes to get the screen that has the details (with the number at the top, then from THIS possition you press & hold "yes" it should dial your calling card number then the destination number, PLEASE NOTE, just a note on verification codes, you can completely ignore the verification code part of the system both when adding a calling card access number & when dialing the number, as it is not important.
Sorry to include stuff that you already know, but other people may find it usefull.

pachy,
What do you mean has been typed out into the menu? Here's what I did:
1.) Under Calls>Time and Cost> Calling Cards> My Cards >I have one calling card with a check mark on it.
2.) The check mark means it's been activated right?!
3.) On that calling card, I have all the info, and with the Code being entered first.
4.) My calling card requires that I have to dial this access number first: 791-****
5.) It will then will prompt me to enter the verification code.
6.) Finally, it will prompt me to enter the destination number.
Now, did I do something wrong? What do you mean it has to be stored or typed in from the Menu?

AT&T has a feature that blocks all international calls. Can you make regular international calls with your phone with out a calling card? If not then call then and ask them to deactivate the block. Then it should work. |

I figured that one out.... Everytime I tried to make a call, I always had an operator blocking my call. |
