P990i wireless LAN functionality. Advice please.
I just had a look through the PDF manual for the P990i but couldn't find the answer, so I am hoping that someone here as the answers.
1. WiFi Ad Hoc network
I note that one can connect to Hotspots but can one connect to an Ad Hoc network, say a laptop, and if so how/what settings (or is an app needed)?
2. WiFi file browsing
I would like to be able to connect to another computer by WiFi, see the files on that computer and to be able to exchange files between the two devices by WiFi. Is this possible?
3. WiFi file transfer
If browsing is not possible I would at least like to be able to send files from and to the P990i by WiFi. Is this possible? (I note that the Send option of the inbuilt file browser has options only for Bluetooth and IR)
4. WiFi back-up device
I would be extremely happy if I could use the P990i as a backup device.
What I would like to be able to do is to set my laptop or camera to automatically send files to the P900i by WiFi and for the P990i to receive them into a folder on the external Memory Stick. Is this at all possible?
I hope you can be of assistance and look forward to your replies.
Thanks in advance.

From memory (I haven't used my P990 for over a year) Ad Hoc connections are possible but you can't do anything other than share the host internet connection as there is no built in SMB/CIFS protocol so 2, 3 and 4 are out of the question. Telexy did do a beta version of SymSMB for UIQ but I don't think it ever launched.
The instructions for connecting in Ad Hoc mode can be found in this forum about halfway down the page.
If anyone knows different please I'd love to know too.
EDIT: Just Googled for SymSMB for UIQ and it was released (although it doesn't appear to be officially available anymore).

SymSMB is available from my-symbian.com here: http://my-symbian.com/uiq3/so[....]ications.php?faq=3&fldAuto=221

Unfortunately that link eventually leads to a dead end. I seem to remember that there were some licensing or copyright issues (something anyway) around SymSMB and Telexy stopped selling it and developed their current range of software which, unfortunately, is S60 only. |
