This little gadget is nice when your phone is on the table or on your hands. But it quickly disconnects when tucked away on your pockets.

For solving this problem I disassembled the HPM-10 and seprated the connector, soldered flat cable between the connector and the pins on the PCB.

My problem is I've found a two non-working components on the PCB. I need to find a schematic diagram or somebody who also opened his or her MP3 player in order to find out what are these two components and their values. I think that one is a capacitor and the other is a resistor.

sounds good! - I've done pretty much the same thing, but have also added a 3.5mm jack into the space where the connector used to sit - that way I can use my preferred headphones for mp3, or use the provided 2.5mm ones for hands free.

What are the components you want to know about?

The components that I'm looking for are both surface mount types.

One is located on the same side as the audio connector and is just below and to the right of the crystal (shiny oval part) coded H14725. This is a rectangular component but I'm not sure whether it is a resistor or capacitor, also don't know it's value. If I know what it is and its value I can solder a new one into it's place. Are there any parts below the H8000 ?

The other one is on the other side where the pins of the connector plugging to the phone are. I accidentally unsoldered it when taking the connector out and it quickly disappeared. It is on the left side of the connector where two seperate pins (these are power lines) are. I think that this a capacitor, it is between positive and negative poles of the power coming from the phone. I need to find out its value in order to find another one and solder it.

Dealing with parts this small is like surgery but it is fun.

how hard was it to get apart?

and is there any space tgo attach a 3.5 other than removing the phone connector?

my right channel is dead after just 4 days of use, I bought it for 10$ us brand new, sealed and as I threw away the reciept I said to myself "why would I need this reciept?, Ill sell it for 30-40$ instead of returning it..."But the SE guy said "just fax over your reciept and we will ship you a new set of headphones.

SO basicly im screwed, unless I get them to sell me a set of headphones, but that negates any bargain I got in the first place, adding a 3.5jack would be an "ok" soultion but far from perfect.

If it isnt the phones and the right channel of the HPM-10 is dead i'll be livid, Ive gotta learn to save reciepts!!!!!

It sounds like the part your looking for is an ic of some sort. Capacitors are commonly marked with something like '1nF 20v' but I have little experience with surface mounted components. Suggest you to do a search at www.elfa.se for the part number.

Yes you can buy an adaptor to convert the 2.5mm jack to 3.5mm from Maplin electronics for about £1.50 - just go to your nearest store, show them the HPM-10 and say you want an adaptor, they'll dig one out. :o)

I would say that unless you are confident about dismantling your unit and changing components, the adaptor will do you fine - and you run no risk of breaking the HPM-10!

I have used my adaptor with no problems for almost 2 years now, and I know maplin still stock them as a mate works there and has recently bought one for his HPM-10

The choice is your's ;o)

Unles ur an engineer or technician u wil be able to fixed it without the schmetic diagram, its ur fault coz u open it without thnkng that the parts of it are too much integrated and therfor disposable, for ur convinience i sugest u to buy a new one instead.

I’ve been busy thus I couldn’t check the topic, here comes the replies.

davebach172 where are you ? I need to find what those parts are.

Tias, if I could get a digi camera I would sent some pictures.

Mapua
I’m an electronic engineer, and no engineer or technician can fix it without a schematic unless he or she has the knowledge already. Dealing with SMD parts is no big deal if you know what you are doing and have the necessary tools. The device has many parts that you can take out and replace with a small soldering iron or heat gun, not so much disposable.
Oh by the way don’t worry about my convenience, I’m fine the way I’m. The question for this topic is, do you have any schematics or not ?

Bhang
If your right channel is not working, and if you are lucky either your earphone cable has a rupture inside somewhere or right earphone has a bad solder job and is not connected or the earphone jack is faulty or the earphone jack plug has a problem. Otherwise you need to open the device and have a look and don’t be too optimistic. If you haven’t electronic knowledge I strongly discourage you to do try this. Whoaa by the way I could buy it for 10 bucks man

It is quite easy to open the player. You have to peel off the sticker underside of the device and pull out the two screws.

Mrwb
The part you tought that I’m looking is a crystal, I’m looking for the part which is just below this part.

Craggsy
It needs a little bit of patience and attention to the detail. Not so hard but I strongly advise you to not to try it if you are not familiar with soldering.
It depends on what you are looking for, if you don’t want to deal with the hassle of soldering you should better go with an adapter which would be a clean solution. Soldering the jack could easily torn into a mess and you should regret it after it is too late.

Driveforward
You are absolutely right. Good answer for craggsy’s question. If you think that you can do it, do it otherwise go to buy an adapter. In my case the goal is totally different. I wish I could find a schematic of this device and replace the non working components.
