I'll take my hat off and eat it if the X10 ever gets 2.2 which I think is highly unlikely knowing them.

You can keep your hat, it will never come from SE , but I want a video of you eating it if 2.2 comes.

try not to wait for that one mate. 2.2 is still, even as good as it is, not given to the other manufacturers, so, in the meanwhile (corporate meetings, discussions, bureaucracy, etc.) we'll just have to wait for a little more time...
i'm waiting for 2.2 on my samsung galaxy S as we speak, and it has benn delayed again until the end of october, so we will all have to wait patiently until they want to give it to us...

I strongly believe this is Google's job to see to it that every device upgrades. The reason, if they start rolling out every update in OS that will be a big problem for the manufactures to keep up with the pace.
Sony Ericsson is a very good example. They rolled out with X10 which has been the best device for SE so far and also the most powerful one too (For SE). Now SE will roll out a new device which will have Froyo or let's say it has Gingerbread but it's still going to be a problem for SE cause if Google rolls out new OS update in this pace then HTC and Samsung will rule for no bloody reasons. My statement does not mean that HTC and Samsung are not good to be on top but I strongly believe that if X10 had Froyo, it would definitely be NO.1 Android device currently.
Secondly I also have HTC users who loved the user experience of X10 and only complaint over X10 was 1.6 Android. Also it has the best camera out of all the Android Devices and the best sleek design too. Let's not praise X10 but my point here is devices like X10 would not be able to be on top only due to the lack of latest OS which is a big problem to the manufacturers and the only blame goes to google.
Well I agree it's not Google's job to see if every device upgrades but the strategy that they picking up is not a very usual strategy. They trying to outgrow the Android in a very rapid pace and for that matter it's definitely their concern to see if the devices also catch up at the same time. It's nothing bad to go at a fast pace but one has to also see that everybody behind also is in the same pace.
I think once Gingerbread comes out, it's again going to change the smartphone market as it will definitely have a major update on UI and speed. So that means all the devices that have Froyo currently is just a bubble and a waste of having it cause next year they going to see a major update and a major revamp on the smartphone industry cause Apple and RIM is not going to sit and watch the show. So that means it's a joke to have Froyo for a while like your ahead of the game but just for the time being, cause soon there is a new chapter coming up.
And as far as SE is concerned, I'm pretty sure they are all ready for a device that can hold Gingerbread and I hope they release it on TIME!
Don't get into this bubble of OS update, just try to see if you can get your work done with the current OS and if not lodge a post on SE or ESATO forum and try to figure it out. Eg I need Flash and that's the only main concern for me, as far as I know they are going to give Flash Lite. So let's see how far that works
Happy Browsing!

We really need an official word from SE if they intend to upgrade the X10/X8 series to Android 2.2.
I'm quite interested in an X8 but I don't want to forsake the big improvements in Froyo!

@Indiandawg - It would be Google's resposibility if every Android device ran vanilla Android OS. Since Android is customised by manufacturers then Google can't give out deadlines until which a phone must have it's OS upgrade ready, simply because the manufaturers may not have time to meet the deadline (redeveloping specific apps for new OS and development of other devices). |
