Hi all,
When SE say, the update for X10 is due in this September, does that mean we x10 mini/pro users will get the 2.1 update too ?

** Do you think the X10 Mini/Pro are capable of 2.2 Froyo ?? given the relatively slow hardware

Yes, all the Android Xperia line (X10, X10 mini, X10 mini Pro and X8) will receive the update to 2.1.
Here is a leaked Android road map to prove this.

I think the X10 mini/X10 mini pro/X8 hardware is capable of running 2.2. The only question is whether SE will release this update for the current Xperia Android products or keep 2.2 just for the future ones.

2.1 is compatible but as mentioned. It wouldn't supreise me if SE keep 2.2 for future handsets even though they state that a phone will get software support for 2 years I've hardly seen anything after 1 year.

Future will show. My guess is if the next UXP will be slightly different and unusable on current devices, only the future Android phones will receive the OS update. SE will not adapt both the new and the old UXP.
But I am happy to receive even the 2.1 update remembering for example HTC Tattoo which is still on 1.6 without a certain date for update to 2.1.

Also there is a rumor going round that SE has backported some 2.2 features to the X10/X10 mini/X10 mini pro/X8 2.1 update which we will receive soon. If this is the case, I guess no special 2.2 update will be released.

The 3 top features I want from 2.2 are the ff:

1) 4x speed performance increase
2) Tethering USB and Wifi
3) App installation move to SD card

If they do this in the 2.1 update... then I'll forgive them for 1.6, and still be in line for the next Xperia Mini phone.

I think you are a bit unfair here. X10 has got perhaps around 6-10 minor updates so far, so how can you say you have seen hardly anything ?

I pretty much want what Jplacson listed above, given these features root would be unnecessary for me!

Considering the amount of time that SE is taking to roll out 2.1 for the X10, I believe it's going to be the final OS upgrade for the X10. That's the reason SE is trying to get some Android 2.2 features backported onto 2.1 for the X10.

rjs, right? I mean, I understand that the X10 Mini has hardware limitations. It's not exactly the highest spec Android phone out there... but I would like the features that are practical. (I'm not really into live wallpaper... in all honesty, I made a simple carbon fiber wallpaper for mine, then I eventually just made a plain black one with a small gradient at the bottom)

I do want my menu and apps to respond faster... I also hope they fix the jumping scroll... where a page just scrolls non stop sometimes... hahahaha

and TETHERING!!!! I like barnacle, but official tehtering would be so much better since I don't need to do the music-player-in-the-background fix.
