In my experience bit defender is a load of rubbish. It failed to find virus' and kept telling me I had never run a full scan even if it had just run. Kaspersky has always done well for me.

There is a previous discussion from a while ago about this which I started but I forget the title. But I am now finding for every internet security I have so far tried not one has come close to the full AVG. Not the free one the full one. I absolutely could not stand Kaspersky talk about annoying confusing non user friendly menus. And it slowed my pc down. I have now used AVG for a long time now and its not once let me down. People may sniff at that but that is my experience. I have used others and always end up back with with AVG. From using AVG all the time for a long time and never once had anything get into my pc what does that tell you?

I use a combination of things.
1) Windows 7 (it's sandboxed for better security)
2) Google Chrome browser (also sandboxed)
3) WOT (Web of Trust) browser extension, also available in firefox
4) MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) -free download from Microsoft for antivirus and antispyware
5) Regular updates of W7 and MSE and virus scans
6) Scan every USB stick that connects to my PC or laptop
7) Occasional checks of the security website The Register to keep up to date with the latest developments in virus' and security threats
Edit: Also regular updates of Adobe's PDF viewer which has more holes than swiss cheese and is being rewritten and sandboxed as we speak. I have PDF viewer only on my laptop, no way it's going onto my PC. Flash is also a security risk.
Microsoft have upped the security of their products of late, Adobe has not.

I also use Chrome and some of Windows security features but with some anti virus software it clashes with it.

I copied some files from a mate one time and when I scanned my USB drive I found the Conficker B virus on my memory stick.
When I checked his PC I found he was running XP, IE6, no updates (blocked by Conficker) and his browser address bar was being redirected to god knows where, probably fake websites with key loggers. His PC was very slow so no doubt he was part of a botnet performing tasks-for-rent to spammers, hackers and DDOS attacks. Initially he wasn't to fussed about dealing with it ($$$) despite the fact it was probably sending all his login details and passwords off-shore but when I insisted due to the fact that the botnet is causing havoc to everyone else on the internet, he agreed and got his PC cleansed. 
I seldom come across virus' these days.
