Maybe it about time and software optimization, just my optimistic side!

i really hope so.. as I really want to try this phone out, but if the camera isn't MUCH better than my C905, its just not worth it right now for the price they are asking.

Low light shots from the N86 were amazing.. so I am surprise that these are so dark being that the sensor is so much bigger.

who is Max_wedge?
Satio way better than C905?.. that is the first time I have heard this..
In fact, i have always heard the opposite.. C905 with Witchking CBE driver blows away Satio Is what I have been hearing..

You don't like the dark photos? Read the explanation given by the guy at Flickr who shot the photos:
This is darker than the original because I manually set the ISO which resulted in underexposure as I had reached the slowest shutter speed. This was taken hand held at night. I liked the end result hence why I am sharing it. But technically correct is not always best or according to personal preferences

Higher ISO will definitely result in more noise and loss of detail. The EXIF data shows the first photo to be shot with ISO 100 with shutter speed 1/17s. Disappointing if the N8 doesn't allow slower shutter speeds than this Looks like it's not time yet to throw away my three year old i-mobile 902 with its 4 second low light shutter (10 seconds with EV +2.0!)...

There's a problem with the N8 if it doesn't allow advanced camera settings to be set, such as shutter speed and ISO.

@ Tsepz_GP - yes they do, but my desktop pc is slow and will not play Youtube videos in HD and like jake20 said they also compress them.

@ jake20 - that panoramic function is an app, so it wont come with it out of the box. Unfortunately. I wouldnt worry about a small delay, if the phone was meant to be released on 30th September, that site suggests only a weeks delay which isnt much considering how long some people have waited for this phone. Oh and i like those low light shots, they're better than what i get currently with any cameraphone. Heres hoping.

i was waiting to be absolutely blown away by the still shots of the N8, and honestly right now with the exception of one photo.. i am not that impressed.
I honestly do not think these still shots are much better than what my C905 can do.

Maybe my expectations are too high?

Yes they possibly are. Lets face it anything past 5mp and pictures look high resolution. Often my Satio has taken a picture worse than my N95 8gb from 2008.

When i got my Satio i was trying to spot a great difference in quality from my N95, its much harder to do so than back when phones only took 1mp images.

I think we've all just grown used to seeing high quality images now from any phone, even those with strange colour rendering like the Galaxy S. So, when we see pictures like those from the N8, we're not as impressed as we used to be. Its understandable. Having said that however, i spent all day yesterday at a wedding. I took my Satio and a 7 year old Sony Cybershot digital camera, which is 3.2mp. The Satio beat it hands down on resolution (obviously!), true-to-life colour reproduction, sharpness, red eye reduction and flash. The only area the Cybershot won was its optical zoom and the odd less blurry picture every now and then when i didnt hold the Satio still for long enough.

good explanation etaab.. and i agree.

Also doesn't look like its too many manual control settings.
For ISO control there is only low, medium and high. They correspond to 100, 400 and 800 ISO levels.

I may still get the N8, as the 720P video will be MUCH BETTER than what my C905 can currently do.. there is no doubt there, as video is pretty bad on it.

You know what however ? ive posted pictures on this forum and many others since 2005 when i got my K750i and every phone since then including my Satio and have always had good feedback from fellow forum dwellers but not once have i ever on anything ever manually adjusted the ISO setting on any phone. I always let the phone / camera choose.

So if the N8 lacks an option to manually choose which ISO setting to use, i wont be bothered diddly squat !

yea, that is true also.. but I have been using Witchking's CBE driver for a while now. I think I am spoiled by it.
So many manual settings and new features, it will be very hard to part with that level of manual control.

But I guess if the camera is that good you shouldn't need to make too many manual changes for just regular point and shooting.

I dont doubt you'll miss the extras you get with a hacked phone or modified software, but whats to say the N8 wont take better pictures out of the box than your old phone, OR if not, get someone who might modify the camera software also ?

Personally im not really into hacking phones or modifying their software which has not been authorised by the phones manufacturer.

Lastly, when comparing my phone(s) to those with modified camera software over the years, i could never really tell that much of a quality difference.
