Indian Man Killed by Exploding Nokia 1209
In a country where remote farmers and corporate suits share a similar passion for mobile phones, a lot of strange things can happen.
Such is the case in Bandha village where a 23-year old man was killed by an exploding cell phone. The man, identified as Gopal Gujjar, was tending to grazing cattle and reportedly talking on his cell phone when it literally explode in his face. In the aftermath of the explosion, the unfortunate man was found dead with burns to his left ear, neck, and shoulders. Pieces of his cell phone, a Nokia 1209 if you were wondering, were found scattered around him.
Interestingly enough, this is one of the first reported cases in India of a cell phone exploding when it was not charging. Other incidents of deadly mobile phones and phone explosions have been reported but many of them occurred while the phone was plugged in and charging. Wonder what happened to this Nokia 1209 that caused it to explode with such fury? Anyone have a reasonable theory?

Not something you'd expect to happen to you really - a phone blowing up in your face.

This is really sad indeed. I guess this has to do with the battery.

It is sad. Last week i had one discussion with my friend who knows more about computer and internet. He said a mobile is potential bomb even pc as well. He said something like a trick would cause it to blow. I will not mention his exact language because of a miss use. But can be done that via signal.
I would stick to my bluetooth headset. But i am using two other nokia phones as well.

I have heard a similar case before somewhere. I have also heard of melting iphones but this is bad I do wonder about Nokia sometimes cos I once had a brand new Nokia 5530 XM & it blew all the electrics in the house

You can't entirely blame Nokia for this tragedy as its possible that the battery in the phone was not Nokia's own but a fake as quite a lot of fake phones accessory's and other such goods enter India via the shared border from China
