I wondered if anyone could tell me what the H in a box and two purple squares icons mean in the top left of my screen ????

Press quickly the power button and it will show you some options and the profiles. Do that and select the "normal" profile.

@tranced, W995 has no separate power button. Call-end key is used to shut it off and this key cannot be used to change profiles like on K850i, K810i etc which have power buttons on the top.
@Croasy, Can you upload the screenshot of your phone's screen?

K850i is also an A2 phone .. But it has a dedicated power button on the top which can be used for many options like changing the profiles, muting the phone, locking the phone's keypad etc.. But W995 has no such button.. That's the reason

You can switch it off by holding down the "phone with a cross thru" button
This has got rid of the purple squares
But this doesn't tell me what they actually symbolised ???  |

Its similar to the profile other then normal icon
But its just two squares and there purple  |

The 2 purple squares indicate that a java app is currently active (Normally see this in activity screen under running apps).
Or you have an Java app set as your desktop (i.e. Bobblehead). |
