I'm after a good webcam for video conferencing and chat but know very little about them so was hoping someone would recommend me something good but not too expensive either point to note is that video must be clear and not jerky as it will be used for frequent video chats from the other side of the world

surely the smoothness of your stream depends on the speed and stability of both partys' connection?

Correct but both are on broadband so not a problem but some cameras are better than others in terms of picture and video clarity

If you have a local Gamestation, they sell PS2 EyeToy cameras for as little as 99p, and can be connected through USB to offer great video/sound quality!
