Here's a guide on how to make your MP3 album artworks show up on your A2 phones.

All A2 DB3150 and DB3210 (except for the W995) phones have Walkman 3.0 (even the non-Walkman-oriented phones) while DB3350 and W995 phones has Walkman 4.0. This guide will work on these phones. Need to know if your phone is A2? Browse it here.

What do we need?

  • Your Sony Ericsson A2 mobile phone (I'll use G502 in this instance)
  • The MP3 file(s) [duh! ]
  • The Album Art image [d'uh! ]
  • A PC or Mac with iTunes (I guess all Macs come with iTunes )
  • Any photo post-processing application (Microsoft Paint is ideal for Windows but since I'm using a Mac, I'll use the pre-installed Adobe Photoshop. )
  • A DCU-60/65 USB Cable, or a USB M2 Adapter (I have DCU-65 and a CCR-70 USB M2 Adaptor )

Now, what to do with these?

1. Examine the album art image. It must have the following qualities:

  • The image must be in .jpg format, not .jpeg or any other. If not, open your photo post-processing application and save it as .jpg file.
  • The maximum size of the image must be 500 pixels, may it be horizontal or vertical. (Note: On older SE Walkman phones, those phones with A1 chipset and Walkman 2.0 player, the image must be square. A2 phones are not. The album art will show even if either the horizontal or vertical dimension is larger.) If not, open your photo post-processing application again to resize your image.
  • The image size must be only 96kb or below. If it exceeds, the art will not show. To resize it on a Mac, open the image through Preview. Save the image as JPEG (.jpg) and lower its quality to half.

2. Open iTunes and put the song(s) that you want to put album art from your phone (through USB M2 Adaptor or USB Cable) to the music library.
3. Select the song(s) that you will put the same album art on.
4. Right click on that/those and select "Get info"
5. If you select only one MP3, click the "Artwork" tab. Check if there is an existing artwork image. If there is, delete it by selecting the image then click delete. Then drag your desired artwork to the box. If you selected two or more MP3s, drag the album artwork image file to the "Artwork" box and click OK. Then wait till iTunes completely apply your changes to your MP3.
6. Repeat steps 2-5 on songs with other artworks.
7. Select all the songs that you've put album art on. Right click those, choose "Convert ID3 Tags", select v2.2 from the drop down box and click OK.
8. And try if the artwork will show up.

thanks for taking the time to help others out here!

but man, I really hate Itunes, and just refuse to load that bloated proprietary piece of software on my computer.
I just want to download mp3 files, and keep them organized the way i want on my computer.. and not have to depend on Itunes to manage my music for me.

So, i use amazon for my mp3 downloads, and just use media monkey to assign album art

Personally, I don't use iTunes on Windows. I'll add another tutorial on using AudioShell for Windows since that program integrates ID3 Tag Editor in Explorer. Anyway, do you have any lightweight screenshot program?

Nice tutorial friend.

I think most of the people here including me, are using Mp3tag software to add album art. Its free software and really easy to use.

Hey nice guide ,

I also use mp3tag software, as ceaser2008 mentioned

http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html

Lightweight, easy, and fast, but it only works on windows though.

I think you can also use windows media player in editing mp3 tags.

thanks guys... Yes, I don't use iTunes for Windows but what are we missing? Step number 7 of the tutorial is essential. Based on my experience, Walkman 3.0 isn't supporting ID3 v2.4 which are, i guess, the default on those taggers.

BTW, I am using AudioShell because it's the only tagger that meets my hardware requirements. Pentium MMX with 32MB RAM.

With TagTools.jar - directly from the phone.
For resizing - ImageMorpher.jar

@centur +1 for you my friend... That's what I've been looking for...

@caesar and others who use MP3Tag, don't you have problems in showing album art in your phones? I would like to give it a go so that I can also have a tutorial.

@centur

Thanks for sharing. I am gonna find these applications for my K850i. I have been looking for this for a long time. Currently i am using musictagger.elf for changing tags but for albumart, i have to connect to pc. Hope these two work flawlessly.

@boy.in.PINK

No problem at all in viewing the album art, but i guess image size should not more then 150 kb and not too large pixels otherwise it wont show on phone.

@caesar I see... I'll give it a go then and post the tutorial if I got time. And I have tapeter 1.5 elf and at some point, it doesn't work in tagging. Did you update your library to June 28's update before you use that musictagger.elf? And can you give me a download link? Thanks mate!

@centur I'll also make a tutorial about those Java applications. Thanks for sharing!

BTW, has anyone use The God Father software?

Let's see how is your translation of the Russian language.
To me it will be easier, because Russian and Bulgarian languages are similar
