Esato Nintendo DS, DS-Lite and DS XL and LL users thread! |

Hi everyone!
update, decided to change the title of this thread... and see if we can get some good resources for Nintendo DS users.
I just got back from Japan and I bought a Nintendo DS LL for my friend.
I can find a UK manual on the internet with - NOT FOR REPRINT, printed on every page.
I am searching... but does anyone know of a link to a manual in English?
This DS LL is the Japanese model, and I am setting it up for her now.
Oh, any advice, good games, etc etc, would be really useful to know!

The Nintendo DSi XL in Japan is called the Nintendo DSi LL so its one and the same so this manual should cover it?

My WiFi issue seems to be down to an incompatible router. Number of posts on the web saying about it.
BT Voyager 2100!
On a different note, does anyone here use the DS lite, DSi and DS XL or LL?
Any recommendations on games or other applications?
Any favourite sites?

I've got an original DS which was bought on its first day of release and I also have a black DS Lite. Unfortunately I don't use them anymore as I have problems focusing on the screen. Soon as I can i'll be buying a red DS XL. Not sure what to make of the 3DS but it looks the size of the standard DSi

I look forward to hearing about the 3DS! Not yet released in Japan, I think....?
I have a WiFi problem.
I bought my Japanese DSi LL in Japan last month and I am trying to use it with a BT Voyager 2100 wireless router and have seen on the internet that some people say this router is incompatible with the DS XL and I guess the LL too.
I have tried everything that I know to connect, but no luck! Automatic, entering all details etc. I can connect my iPod Touch and Nexus One so I feel I know what I am doing.
I have run ipconfig on my Windows XP pc to get settings but still no luck.
I also read that the IP address - 199.178.1.2 ( not real ) needs to be entered with 10 added to the last part of the quad number therefore it reads - 199.178.001.012
This site shows the specs of the router and it says..
* Faster 802.11g wireless standard
* Backward compatible with 802.11b
So isn't the backward compatible aspect OK?
I can see technical specifications for Nintendo DS series here but it doesn't state WiFi information.
However this site says
Wireless: 802.11b/g Wi-Fi
So is it really my BT Voyager 2100 Router that is the problem?
Any advice much appreciated!

It is not incompatible, just you need to get into its config utility, delete all ip addresses in network devices, then reconnect. What security are you using on the WiFi? Try using WPA which is more up to date.
Also, if you are a residential customer with BT moan about incompatibility with your devices, we did, and ended up with a HH 2 and phone for free

Hi likechris,
thanks for your reply! I am with Kingston Communication, not BT.
I think I understand about just you need to get into its config utility, delete all ip addresses in network devices, then reconnect.
I can see with my Voyager notes, access homepage - a quad number .. and I know the user name and password.
I do worry about mucking up my home internet connection though...
I use WPA-PSK for security and I can find this on my DSi LL in it's connection settings.
I will report back here my progress!

Don't worry about it, you are deleting the internal IP's, not anything else. The DCHP server that assigns IP may have run out of IP's to assign, for example, you may still have an IP address assigned to an old phone etc.
Also, you could try it on another connection.
Once you have deleted the IP's, go into cmd, and type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. That will trigger the DCHP server to assign you a new IP.
Cheers

Hi lukechris,
can't work out where the menu option is to delete all IP addresses...
I have looked, quite well I think , for the option,,,
edit - maybe switching the DHCP server from here, and then switching it on again ?? is the answer
Once you have deleted the IP's, go into cmd, and type ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew. That will trigger the DCHP server to assign you a new IP.
will this affect the laptop using the wireless connection, in the house? I guess not..
sorry to be a pain!

Nope, next time the laptop connects it will get a new IP.
Try the 'Local Network' tab, see what's in there. It should list all of the devices connected.

hi again, Lukechris,
Here is the local network tab contents.
I have a simple temporary solution..
I could try to connect with no security and see if I can connect, update the DSi XL firmware, and browse,
then, I can set the security again..
