is there still no application that you can put on your phone. My friends all have wee rubbish phones at £30 or £40 that do it. Simple little smileys just a wee application needed

Nope, some phones just don't have it, who ares anyways its not like your friends are gonna get them showing up like it appears to you (unless they have the same phone and branding)
i used to have a tocco lite and it couldn't, then again the tocco lite could not do anything...

Dumb-Symbian never have it unless you and your friend have some program install for it.
I only see it for S-UIQ which had been died already.
