3 undercuts rivals with iPhone pricing

Network makes aggressive move into iPhone market

3 has released tariffs for the iPhone and as predicted by commentators has under cut its rivals on pricing across all models of the handset.

The iPhone 4 is currently not available directly from 3 stores, but 3 staff are working in Apple’s 26 UK stores today, to help deal with the demand for the new handsets and sell 3.

The iPhone 3GS in the black 8GB model and white in 32GB model will be available from all retail stores today (24 June).

3’s pricing on the iPhone 4 significantly under cuts its competitiors. On a 24 month tariff at £30 a month for the iPhone 4 16GB, 3 customers will be able to buy the handset for £99. The tariff includes 500 minutes, 5000 texts, 5000 3-to-3 minutes and 1GB of data.

On the same length and price of contract, for the iPhone 4 16BG, Orange and Vodafone are asking for £169 up front for the handset and O2 customers will have to pay £179. Customers opting for Orange, Vodafone and O2 on a 24 month contract at £30 a month will have also have fewer minutes.

3 has been carrying out extensive work on its 3G network. In January this year, the network installed its 10,000th 3G mast and said it hoped to install a further 3,000 by the end of the year.

The network has also undergone a re-brand in an ongoing attempt to grow its customer base.

3 sales and marketing director, Marc Allera said: ‘There is a demand for this smartphone on a smart network.’

The aggressive strategy adopted by the network in selling the iPhone has been stretched to all models of the iPhone. 3 will be the only network, so far, to offer the iPhone 4 16GB model with no up front payment on a £45 a month tariff for 24 months.

3UK seem to be the one of the few networks now that gives you real value & don't rip you off

Not quite as good as the Tesco deal IMO, the 12 month contract with Tesco really sweetens the deal for me, in a years time a 16GB iPhone 4 will easily go for £300, which is likely to cover the cost of the next generation iPhone on the same contract

I seen a billboard about Tesco 12 month contracts today. I think it's wrong that people now have to be almost forced into 18 to 24 months just to get a mobile

But the quality of service and coverage makes you go for the more expensive networks. Cost isn't everything, reliability is too

3 has brilliant coverage now that their network has been overhauled.

I would easily choose them above O2 or Orange. I guy in my office is on O2 with his iPhone and he is regularly wondering if his network has gone down because he finds his reception has disappeared.

Three Launches One Plan.

The ‘One Plan’, which starts at £25 for Sim-only plans, will offer consumers 2,000 any network minutes, 5,000 3 to 3 minutes, 5,000 texts and 1GB of data.
