Sorry guys got to have a moan..
My nine year old daughter was at an after school rehearsal for a school show and ten minutes into it she takes a tumble and goes down. She starts screaming and complaining about her wrist, one of the teachers has a looks and says it will be fine, missing the massive swelling around her wrist. she is still crying about it an hour later.. The teacher tells her to get up and do the final dance number where they have to dribble basketballs. When I get there to pick her up the teacher comes out with my daughter and says she had a fall but was ok, I take one look at it and take her straight to A & E. Just got back 5 minutes ago with a daughter with a displaced fracture to her left radius (wrist).
We live 200 yards from the school and could have been straight away. but no they couldn't be bothered to have a proper look at her arm or if they were unsure called us to do so.
Sorry just needed to get it off my chest,
Steve

Bloody hell mate sorry to hear that & I can understand you being angry. When your own child is supposed to be safe in the responsibility of teachers it's not acceptable. I would take it further & get some sort of action or apology from the school

I always hated the phrase "the show must go on" and here is another example
Wish your daughter the best from us.

Being an ex high sohool pe teacher. I would have made sure that parents were contacted straight away and the incident was logged in the schools accident book. If the teacher failed to do this they have failed in their duty of care to the child. Also. Under RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) 1995. Any injuries resulting in hospital treatment MUST be reported to the Health and Safety exec office (usually at your local council offices)
The school should also have Risk Assessments in place along with a Safe System Of Work for the teacher to follow.
IMO what that teacher did was neglect and they need reporting. I'd also make the schools head aware of what happened and also speak to a solicitor.

I got really angry reading what happened to your daughter. Truly sorry.
I have a nine year old daughter myself who means everything to me, I'd give anything for her so I understand your anger. I would take a very serious action against the teacher. There is a school policy regarding almost every incident/accident and it has just been ignored and you and your child are suffering emotionally and physically respectively.
Good luck and speedy recovery to your daughter.

I have now spoken to the Head and Deputy head, both where in school until well after it had happened, neither had been informed. and were both very shocked to find out what had happened, the school have a log of all parental contact even just for bumps and scratches, there were no details about it in there and they are going to check accident book. they are starting a full investigation so should here more soon.

It's the same with say for instance at my work place any guests or staff have an accident it has to be logged for insurance purposes. The fact that nothing was logged or reported & she was not taken to hospital is disgusting

It's always so damn hard. You want peace and a quick recovery of your daughter, at the same time you'll need to fight the school. Let them take it to the bottom while you take it to the top. And make sure everything appears in the books, check it.
And again, all the best for your family.

Really sorry to hear about your daughter, I know how you feel. My son Ben (mini luchador) was tripped up by another boy in the playground at school when he was 9 and suffered a fractured skull and was told by the staff in the playground to get up and stop messing around, he tried and collapsed straight away. Then with an obvious head/neck trauma, the caretaker lifted him and ran into the school to find the first aider! Surely anyone supervising children should be at least trained in an element of first aid (such as don't move someone with head injury).
Turned out the school use ancillary staff (cleaners and caretakers) to supervise kids. Ben's fracture resulted in nerve damage and he lost his right hand side hearing completely and had to learn to walk again but the headmaster said "boys will be boys." - hardly a responsible attitude, and didn't change any supervision policies.
I wish you and your daughter all the best, and hope she feels better soon.

Thanks for all the responses, Jen has now been back to hospital to get her wrist manipulated in to the correct position position twice, and they are still not happy with it, got to go back on the 7th to see if it needs wiring or pinning. The school governors have been advised of our complaint, and we have gotten in touch with the council's heath and safety department as they had not been informed of the incident, both of these are now being investigated.
One bit of good news, the head had banned Jen from any extra curricular activities including the play they had been working on when she fell, the day after the letter to the governors I got pulled in to the heads office and told that she could take part in these.
The head has also admitted that she sees no reason for Jen to say that there was swelling and a misshapen lump on her arm, or that she was visibly upset and in pain when the fall happened when her staff say there was none of these.
