Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere here on Esato. I didn't see it.
Someone has started a petition to get SE to commit to bringing FroYo to the X10. 2000+ signatures thus far.

What would happen if SE began customising it's UXP for 2.2 and suddenly Google announced 2.3 or 2.4?
Wouldn't there be just as much fuss and disappointment and even more petitions?
SE have already stated on Twitter that there will be other updates to its UXP beyond 2.1.
It's like watching a dog chasing its tail. I mean, would it be better to update with each new iteration of the OS or should it go from 1.6 straight to 2.2?

I think it would be better to go straight to 2.2.

This is Sony Ericsson. Petitions won't help. Many petitions have been filed for K850i. What happened? Nothing =). |

Oh my! Guys just stop making those stupid petitions!
First, Android 2.2 won't be available on existing phones even on the phones which satisfied its requirements. Second, aren't you guys satisfied with the UXP 2.1 update? That's better than nothing.

That won't happen. Google has stated it is slowing down development of Android, and is looking to release new versions twice a year (for the shopping seasons they said). With that being the case, SE should have 4-6 months to get 2.2 out for the X10 line. There is absolutely no reason they shouldn't be able to make that timeframe.
It is better to update with each new iteration of the OS... once you've caught up with where the OS currently is. That's not the case right now.

Where are you getting this from? HTC has already stated that all of this shipping phones will be getting 2.2. The "big news" was that the G1 wouldn't get the update.
And no, I'm not satisfied with the UXP 2.1 update that will come in Q4 this year, the same quarter that Google will be announcing Gingerbread (Android 2.3?)

K850i had hardware faults that simple firmware and software couldn't fix, from what I remember. |

BROD wasn't cause by HW. The restarts were, to an extent. |

Yeah, right. Hope that's more than just talk like with the promissed update of Hero to 2.1 (seem some at Sprint may have finally got it after 5-6 month, and for the rest here is a HTC Hero petition http://www.phonesreview.co.uk[....]pdate-petition-have-you-signed )
