S40v5 feature pack 1 alternative solution to the 'missing homepage' issue when installing proxy |

It was a problem of mine before. S40v5 fp1, unlike the previous versions of the s40 family, lacks the capability of adding homepage to web proxy.
As you may notice in 5130xm or 2730c, the homepage, which is traditionally included in the Web Personal Configuration Settings, was removed. As a result, the proxy you've added could not be loaded if you hit the Home in the web browser.
One more problem about this latest version of s40, is the embedded Opera Mini 4.2 as its default browser, and not that classical WapHTML browser (the really default browser as programmed to the previous versions of the interface)
Here's another, the missing Go to url function in the Web Menu!
I've suffered from these s40v5 (2730c) incapabilities and lackness for almost 2 months. But now, I want to share to you what I have just discovered!
Want to use fbt/ubt in your default Wap browser (not OM)? Here are the tricks.
Suppose you are to add a web proxy which has a homepage like that of the homepage of your service provider (m.smart.com.ph for Smart and so on), all you need to do is:
First, access the Homepage by going to Home, of course. Assuming you are a Smart sim user, this will put you to this url: m.smart.com.ph
Next, save this page as a bookmark. To do so, click Options and Add to web services. (Bookmark was replaced to Web services to make a more pleasant sound, haha)
There you go, a new bookmark that will serve as your proxy's homepage! Now, next thing to be busy with is the web proxy itself. To add new proxy, go to Settings, Configuration, Personal Config, Options, Add New, Web.
Then try to input the following:
Account name: (any desired name)
Homepage: (this option is not available to some s40v5, then why did I care to put this here? Haha)
Use default access point: No
then go to AP Settings and input this.
Use proxy: Yes
Proxy add: turbohide.com (you may use any proxy, glype or phproxy, as long as it is taken into consideration that it has a freesite as homepage like m.smart.com.ph. This one is glype)
Port: 80
Back twice, and Activate.
To access your recently added proxy, go to Web, Web Services and select the bookmark we've just added before. And now, you're on FBT/UBT mode!
How about the Go to url issue? Simple. Go to Media, Music Player, Go to Music Player, Options, Downloads, and click Go to url. It was transferred to the Music Player, haha! It is a common misconception that this only supports streaming, I prove that wrong, I tested it a while ago, haha!
Enjoy using you're s40v5. I'm still hoping I could retrieve the list of phones sharing same problem as this.

Lucky for me mine is a s40v3 and my s40v5 is a s40v2 variant.. Hehe.. Now i can finally help my friend with this. Thanks. Can i ask you a question? Where did you get a s40v4? I thought it doesnt exist being some asian countries are tetraphobic i mean.. Hehe.. |

2600c ba un o 2630c, s40v5 sya pero may homepage at go to url option.. ;D
Pwede naman ganito, punta ka menu>messaging>drafts or saved items, all u have to do is edit some message/s there, at i-type mo na dito url na gusto mu puntahan(with http:// dapat sa unahan para madetect ng fone na url pa un), tsaka save mo na ang changes, open mu ule ung edited message by u, eh di instant bookmark na or go to url page, jiji! 
Anyway I'm curious about S40v4, nokia believes that 4 is an unlucky number, kaya nga walang v4th edition sa S60, ewan ko lang sa S40, kindly give some examples of S40v4 fones?

too late for me to consult the internet 'bout that s40v4. It was just a mistake. But before creating this thread, I'm already hearing/reading about s40v4 over the net, that's why I included it here. I thought it would be a good idea, however, it turned out to be a stupid error. Haha. My bad. |

@ke, uhm, i already thought of that trick but it opens the link in the pre-installed om4.2. That's why, i sorted it as one of the disadvantage.
Readers, sorry bout that s40v4 in the thread, it only exist in my imagination haha. |

Tama wala nga s40v4, v5 at v6 na kaagad.
isa pang napansin ko sa bagong s40v5 ayaw gumana sa built in yun mga prov na walang homepage, subscribe to packet data first ang lalabas.
Pero pag ultimate prov na may homepage ok naman.
pag cgi na gamit nyo sa om2.06 na dapat gamitin then open wap-browser.

I read a thread from this site I can barely recall discussing about the same problem. I saw it with my two naked eyes, that S40V4, and the author listed the phones. It's a foreign thread anyway. I really hope I could retrieve that list and post it here. |
