most other brands have them now.
ELM has the best cam in its class, as is the C901.
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA

Quite a few mid end phones now have VGA recording, for example the Elm and quality is pretty good from what I've seen and is much better than QVGA resolution recording from phones like the C901.
If you want the best video recording possible from you can now Catch Life in HD With Sony Ericsson Vivaz
There are quite a few video samples from the Vivaz on youtube if you are interested, here is one:

X10 will be going HD too, but that'll only come with a fw update in Q4. My guess is they don't want to kill Vivaz's market atm.

..............

Vivaz: 720p#30fps (HD-quality)
X10: WVGA#30fps
Aino/Elm/Yari: VGA#30fps

and yes, if you buy a bit older cellphone, you only get QVGA-video recording (still decent quality i think)

SE has shot to the lead, should I say co-lead with Samsung, in video recording. These two are the only manufacturers with HD recording phone available now and more to follow with the X10 getting HD recording in Q4.

The lowest video recording format from SE these days is VGA.

Quite funny actually when you think that SE was the worst in this area preferring not to use decent video recording some years back.

SE has had some really crappy advisors with destructive capacities when they decided "oh, the smartphone boom is still a long way from now" just over a year ago or "there's no need for HSDPA, people are completely contented with 3G" that their 1st HSDPA handset was not even 2 years ago or "GPS will NEVER be standard on a phone, it's just a fad that will fade away" that only recently was it integrated in their phones or "Our fans LOVE our proprietary jack, they're reliable, very sturdy and VERY space saving, especially when you need to charge and listen to music at the same time" with total disregard for the whole world's gripe over their ridiculous persistence or "Document editors in mobiles is VERY niche" that again they lose people who need it to this day totally failing to see that only their hardcore fans buy their products these days. Only now are they improving on the video front when they could've been the leader for some time now but instead they're just catching up in so many departments. Wrong choices, wrong strategies, plain wrong, wrong, wrong.

Now that they're starting to get it right, please lose the internal dogmatic insistence for some of those stupid policies you still hold sacred and start looking externally (us for starters) to compliment your understanding of the market.

Well put there mode!!!

I'm waiting for when they do take the lead instead of following. Samsung and HTC are fighting each other on innovation and everybody else just follows.

SE were leading in video and graphics long before the others even thought about it, remember the W900? It must have been the 1st phone with a graphics accelerator, and then suddenly SE dropped the great video and graphics for cheaper production costs and screwed themselves over. Atleast now they are making progress.

Aah, yes, the mighty W900i. I keep forgetting that one. Way ahead of its time.

SE should really be ahead in most fields but complacency took over.

As you pointed out, Tsepz, at least they are getting back to being competitive. Hopefully, that means they'll get back their spirit of innovation.
