Android Market Passes 50,000 Apps
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010
Google’s Android operating system is in a revolution and to example this the Android market app store has passed 50,000 apps.
iPhone fans won’t be able to argue an immense app store as their advantage any longer as Android is too building an incredible app store and has passed the fifty thousand mark.
Revolution
If the new Android additions of the HTC Desire and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 weren’t reason enough to go Android, then this news comes as another persuasion.
The rate of growth for a platform that’s only been around for a year and a half is quite incredible but the really exciting aspect for Android users is that of those 50,000 apps on offer, over 65% of them are absolutely free. At this rate, it will only be a matter of time until Android has caught iPhone OS and leveled the playing field.

I have to say that this number of apps has surprised me as I didn't expect it and I hadn't heard any previous counts such as at the 25,000 level etc.
What would also be interesting is to see the number of apps downloaded too
Its also interesting that people are still comparing and trying to match up to the App Store but I guess thats the nature of the game!

Well any competition is good competition - it's nice that there is an alternative now, Apple have just had a head start.
Also that something like 60% of Android apps are free, compared to 25% of iPhone apps, but I guess the higher the quality of Apps, the more likely you'd have to pay for them so that sort of means nothing to me.
I would still like to see a Santander Mobile Banking app, and more from big names so I guess Android still has some catching up to do on that front.
