I have been having issues with my VERY noisy neighbours for the last few months with them playing loud music late at night and early mornings doing DIY (banging) work late nights screaming and shouting late nights.Having tried everything in my power to stop them has all but failed tried arguing calling the Police several times reported them to the council but nothing has been done about the problem and they seem to be persistently getting worse and I have no idea what else i can do? I am not getting proper sleep and often kept awake by the noise so any ideas what i can do to stop them?

Sorry to hear of your problem. Do this. Make records of events when they happen and what it is. Also if you can film or record the noise. Do not just call the council or police. Call Environmental health who can come around to your house and assess whats happening and issue them with a warning. They are also part of the council. There is a law in this country which states a certain level of noise at certain times of the day. We had loud music next door to us once though we are not council housing. I complained to the landlord many times until they were booted out. I never ever put up with that people have the right to peace and quiet in their homes. We had uni students next door playing music. Now we have nice quiet people. Keep on at the council tell them you refuse to pay your rent till they do something. Do not put up with it.

Thanks for your helpful advice I haven't yet contacted environmental health so that is the next step i will be taking and hopefully then this problem will get resolved However i have found the council and police completely useless as anyone thinking of going to them for any help are simply wasting their time

A year ago about ten doors up from us there were some polish people who moved in. They kept playing loud music in their garden in summer months till the wee small hours. It was almost nightclub level sound wise. My neighbour called environmental health and they came out next day with a warning put through their door. Few days later they had left. Not that i am saying your case will be that easy but if you leave it then it will get worse. You could try blasting music out really loud when they are trying to sleep see how they like it but thats just silly i guess playing to their level. These people dont care about others but if you dont give up and keep pushing the council they can evict them.

What a strange coincidence my noisy neighbours are Turkish so this seems to be a problem with some new immigrants and I have tried the playing the loud music back at them late night but that doesn't seem to bother them too much also tried banging on their walls and also tried to speak to them but since they speak little or no english its a mission trying to make them understand because they simply don't on top of everything they do barbecues every single day and i mean every day its the only way they seem to prefer cooking so there is always smoke and smell of cooking meat in the back garden but I have had enough of this now and are no longer willing to tolerate it enough is enough and hopefully the environmental health will come down and do something about this? I don't want them moved out as i don't dislike them only if they just kept the noise down then everyone can be happy

listen dude, by now you must be pissed. if you're like me and the police hasn't helped grab a nice baseball bat put some ketchup on it and let it dry. go over at your neighbors and say this:
listen, i have been very tolerant and i REALLY do not want problems, so please take it easy on the noise. If you do not try to understand me i will NOT BE ABLE TO CONTROL MYSELF and start acting like a crazy person. and hit something with the bat. That should work, or give the environment health a go first. i am not joking mate. i can be a crazy person with all my jokes but your neighbors sound like real as*holes! you better do something before it gets worse!

Get a girl to phone up and say they feel intimated by the actions and feel one day it could get out of hand, or it's happening at 1200-0300 and your kids are struggling to sleep and keep waking up...

Or... If you can't beat them, join them, whatever music they listen to, put the complete opposite on really really loud at also silly times, they will soon stop!

I wouldnt recomend playing loud music back to them as this may disturb other neighbours as well.

I don't think i have in me to be violent like that otherwise i would have done it by now but i have tried arguing and banging there door which hasn't worked and you can't make someone understand who doesn't understand english there are turkish immigrants who only speak turkish and understand nothing else

As above speaking to them on the phone or directly won't make any difference its all been done I even got some drunk female friends to play loud music and dance on there doorstep at 3am which didn't work either

Played the Prodigy and Irish dancing music at silly hours with no success either....

Invest in a PA system and put it in your back garden, you just need a usb to balanced xlr outputs sound card for your pc, then some speakers i recommend these jbl's http://www.djkit.com/product.php?id=5277&cat=247 , with 2 18" subs and 3200watts of peak power you should be able to overpower there music and annoy them , they will probley give up with there music in the end, fight fire with fire.

Or just ring up the enviroment agency and they'll see if its "illegally" too loud by sticking a box to your house for a few weeks. Lot cheaper too
