Hi,

I may be aquiring a HTC hero from t-mobile next week. I was just wondering how easy this would be to unlock and debrand the software? Ive never flashed a phone/changed a ROM. Do i need additional cables?

Also once i have generic software, would i then be able to download the updates direct from HTC instead of t-mobile?

Any help/advice is appreciated
Thanks

To debrand a T-Mobile G2 you will need to create yourself a "goldacrd" to by pass the RUU/SPL security check. Once you have done this you will be able to downagrde your current rom if needed and then flash any ROM you want. Intsructions for the ceation of the goldcard are here, http://theunlockr.com/2009/10[....]-htc-hero-so-it-can-be-rooted/ Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, but luckily the 1 im getting off you is already rooted + running the generic ROM so no longer need to do it

I know android are releasing a new update sometime this month. Do you know if i can update it directly from HTC without losing the rooting? im not too sure how these things work
