W995 - GPS & why does it need still internet access |

Hello,
Went to use the google map application the other day, and whilst it was generating route it complained it had lost signal.
True, signal was dead, 3g or otherwise. However, GPS was still up and live so no route completed as it complained no network.
Why does it need network to run?
Seems pointless as you cannot guarantee a signal. for example, on my route home from work for the 45min drive I have an orange signal for about 10mins.
Thoughts, or is my broke? |

Hi, oioldman, the reason for using the signal is that google maps downloads images/maps from the internet, so, if there is no signal, then Google Maps cannot work properly.
Its too bad that GM does not store maps locally... you could use it offline in that way.
