Are Apps Overrated? |

So I had a Satio and It was a great phone! I only had 3 complaints, No 3.5mm Jack (wtf!?), Poor Battery (Hope thats fixed), and No Apps, also no 3g but they have since come out with Satioa.
So I sold it a while back and now I have the Nexus One, Its an Excellent phone! I mostly got it because, It has everything in one, Android+Apps, and big screen.
So how is it so far? Its great! Camera, OS, Screen etc. But one of the biggest thing I always hear people complain about in a lot of phones is that they dont have any apps. I used to be like this and hated that my Satio had no Apps, are they really worth it though? I have a lot of apps on my phone but to be 100% honest I dont use them, lol all this stuff about apps and I'll Download em, use it for a minute and never use them again, now dont get me wrong I would use some if im on plane or train or if im just really bored (tetris, various games) but for the most part I can live without them, I think the most important thing in the phone is the hardware itself, then everything else is extra.
Now I find myself wanting a Satio again (crazy I know!) now that I can get a 3G version for where I live and I absolutely miss that amazing camera! So quick and easy to use! Perhaps the most annoying aspect of the satio for me is the Fastport, god I hate it! Then theres the screen, the Nexus one screen is amazing! But imo 3.5 inches is perfect, not too big not too small.
Overall I really liked the satio, I could overlook some small problems it had and be happy with it, then again Im happy with my nexus, but believe it or not I feel really comftorble with the satio for some reason. Will I get it again? Not sure. maybe I'll wait a bit. But IMO Apps are overrated and not nessascary, for some perhaps, but for me, as long as my phone can do music, calling, web, and camera really well, everything else is extra, oh and Satio is one of the ebst looking phones IMO. |

The Satio has many apps. Its just the apps aren't really good due to the SDK and the operating system that Symbian has created. For example quick office is nearly unusable, due to the keyboard covering the whole screen and the lack of kinetic scrolling and graphics accelerator support to make the experience smooth. There is however some exceptions that are great such as Opera Mobile.
Most apps are overrated and useless such as iFart. But there are quality apps that simplify your life and make your phone an extension to your PC such as Dragons Dictation.

why do you find hardware important? You said you don't need apps. So why you need more ram or cpu power? Anyway since day one that the satio came out it had apps to install on it. some of them are useful for you some are not, but other users may find this apps useful for them. Anyway i don't get your point of creating this topic..? |

When I say Hardware I mean the Camera, how sturdy/well made it is, style wise, and what it actually has, like WIFI, GPS etc. And whats the point of this topic? To express my opinion on a pretty common topic amongst many people, what am I now allowed to do that now? |

Its about getting the right apps for YOU, IMO apps are not overrated, one of the main reasons why i moved away from Java to Symbian was due to apps. Apps allow for your smartphone to be more useful in many ways to you. The point is to get the ones YOU need, if there arent any you need thats fine, dont install any, but atleast you know if one day you find that for example you want to get a Twitter client for your Satio, Gravity is there or if you want to play avi vids SmartMovie is there, etc. . .its good to have that option to expand the phones features.
