Hello everyone...

I have a long running history with Sony Ericsson phones, it's been my favourite brand ever since I got my first phone (a trusty T290). I've had a K300, a W810i, and now a W995. Before getting it, I was really excited about its' features, but after a few weeks with it, I'm a bit disappointed, mainly with the camera (when I got the W810, I remember being blown away by the quality) and the glitchy WiFi, these two feats being the main reason I wanted the phone (I'm a student with no laptop, but with Wifi in our residence).
So after quite a bit of searching online, I came across the new Android alternative...and now I cant stop thinking about selling my W995 and getting a HTC Hero(around the same price), or waiting a bit for the hype to wear off and go for the Nexus One or the Motorola Milestone...and while their cameras are most probably worse than the W995's, they seem to do everything else better, and the level of customization is attractive to say the least.

So if anyone has experience with both Android and SE phones would offer me some advice, I would really be grateful, as I dont wanna make any rash decisions, but at the same time I dont wanna waste any opportunities to get smth better for my money. Thanks a bunch. and sorry if I posted in the wrong section.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, waiting for a SE Android was also an altenative that I was considering, but honestly I wasnt getting my hopes up since the price of a X10 is probably gonna be way out of my budget (I saw reports of close to 900$ price tags). No denying though that it would really be a "best from both worlds" scenario hehe...

I guess I'll try to be patient, see how the Android market evolves, and keep an eye out for SE's offers....plus, seeing as plenty of new models are supposed to get launched soon from HTC, maybe that'll mean price drops for older ones. Just hope my W995 wont lose much of its' value by then....

well now they have 3 androids....basically all have similar look but come in different size... haha

you got size L for X10....size S for X10mini and size M for X10mini Pro. or should it be XL for X10...maybe there's something in between X10mini and X10

What do you want to do on an Android device that you can't do on a W995?
If you want an excellent camera and customisation then I'm sure S60 can accomodate you well. Android phones are smartphones first and camphones second.

To be honest, all I'm looking for is a phone with proper working WiFi that would fill the spot of a laptop for now, and I saw the W995 as the perfect candidate, especially with the camera and music playing abilities that made me fall for SE in the first place (W810..sigh). Now I'm not so sure any more...still cant get any websites to load with the WiFi, and the inability to connect to some secure networks while a buddy with an Iphone (hate that thing) has no problems whatsoever is pretty disappointing...I'll try to reinstall the software tomorrow, if that doesn't get things working again then I dunno...

There's not really smth specific about the Android that I'm looking for, I guess I just fell for the hype...plus its finally smth that'll wipe the smug of Iphone users' faces, heh.

That's what I suspected.

Lots of people online are just looking for the newest, greatest, flashest to show off with. Hell, S60 made a living out of it for years and nobody noticed that there weren't any Apps being sold, just fancy bling phones, but Nokia didn't care! Until the iPhone came along that is...

Microsoft just released a new OS so all the 'bling boys' have gone off to drool over the newest, latest, flashest thing to show off with. Exclaimations of "I've just found my next phone!!!" abound but there is so little substance behind the minimalist style, I'm sure that Steve Jobs has been laughing all morning.

Oh well, back to the neverending wait for Rachael.................................................................... ..

Agent_47,

If you want great camera quality, stay with SE or look in the direction of Samsung or Nokia. HTC don't make great cameraphones.

Heh, thanks for the replies guys.

And yeah, I know what you mean about the hype carkitter, I hate it when it gets the better of me and I cant think straight. Anyway, I'll try to keep a "clear head" and analyse all my options..trying to get along with my W995 for now, but I'll keep an eye out for any good deals at the same time.

thanks for the tip OluYom, I've been looking at some of the Nokia options too, such as N900...but I might as well just get a laptop for that price .
