Just got the Satio |

I have just got the satio. My first impressions are it's not very Sony Ericsson I sold my W995 for this. First off the screen seems to not be very responsive atall. There's no weight in the phone, what's it made out of paper? The silver plastic at the side feels cheap won't it go all black when used for a while? Dare I say the LG Viewty and Samsung Pixon 12 feel better? The Pixon is well made and sturdy despite having the silver strip at the side. I thought it's better than a Pixon 12 as the screen is bigger.
The software just put the phone down for now Symbian is not what I am use to. Camera menus nothing like I'm use to with SE.
Can't get away from the material. More like the K850i than the C905's rubber. The buttons at the side also feel cheap. The packaging..SE in general are going the wrong way the C905 box was better my W995 was that cheap coloured stuff too and manual that looks like it's out a build up toy.
I sense a good camera out the box but as a phone? I just got a Ipod touch a few weeks back that tempted me onto the touch screen stuff as it's right up there with the Iphone. Am I too use to the Ipod?
I don't know where to start with satio. Never got a USB Adaptor out the box either that was a question I asked a few weeks back on here. Positive it takes the W995 speaker? Radio doesn't seem to work though with it..and it thinks it's a hands free.
I better go away and have a try with it..anybody inspire me into thinking this was the right choice ditching a W995 for Satio? I guess the old SE "wow" on menus and features is gone with the old standard phones and something you don't get with a smart phone.

You don't sound happy with it at all, I'd take it back and get something else.
Personally, I would have went for Aino but I wouldn't recommend Satio to anyone who is a fan of SE's UI. You need to be a great fan of S60 to cope with it.

I changed the theme so it seems more responsive now. Usually I enjoy SE's big phones may just have to get use to it. |

Cheer up mate.. the phone is not that bad as you may feel.
If you have got a itouch couple of weeks back then that is it !! No one in the market has got a touch interface as good as Apple and as such do not compare like for like.
As for the UI, it is S60 and not A200 UI so there got to be some deviations from traditional SE UI. But you will get used to it soon. Hopefully, SE brings out some big FW update along with Vivaz and then you got to see the true capacity of the phone.
I installed some great games and was amazed to see true PSP quality graphics and response. I am really impressed.
At the moment there is some bothering bugs which I believe SE is looking at in their next FW update (otherwise I will be very disheartened )
I have W995 as well, the phone is a different built and noway can be compared to this phone. But on top of all, the camera is very good which I think very few phone cameras on the market can match up.
The otherday I checked the phone in CarphoneWarehouse. PAYG is now selling at £400 (at par with N97 mini which has lesser camera capacity) !! It was down to £350 in Dec 09. The salesman, reluctantly told me that Satio is at par with N97 Mini but better than its competitor.
I hope all these info will cheer you up !! |

The Satio isn't really that bad once you get used to all of S60s crazyness |

I don't understand why you dislike Satio that much. It isn't heavy but it does not feel cheap either. I haven't found any bugs yet and my battery is still almost full since yesterdays 12 pm. The only thing I found weak, is the vibration intensity... Otherwise, it is a great device.

I sold my Satio and went back to the w995 and must say I don`t miss the symbian OS. Besides I found the phone too large, not very pocketfriendly, not to mention the lack of EQ and RDS-radio w995 all the way

2nd'd zide's comment. I've got 2 Satio's and neither of them have had any problems so far except one had a reboot whilst in my pocket. Nothing major imo as it was the same on UIQ Symbian as well.
Also. The comment about the packaging is utter rubbish. Have you read anything lately about SE's attempt to help the environment ??? Less packaging is good and there isn't any need for a big box anyway.
Imo you were expecting the Satio to be just another crappy A200 lookalike and are now spitting your dummy out cos you got a slight learning curve to get used to the phone (oh hang on. I forgot. Most people these days want everything done for them.. They're not interested in learning anything new or different)

I won't say I don't like it as I've been tempted to get it for ages. What I like is the camera quality very good and the flash support in the web browser is a bonus the Ipod doesnt do that. Sound quality is great I think it has a deeper louder sound than the twin stereo speakers my W995 had more C905 speaker style.
But the downsides:
The plastic it's like a big lump of plastic. The phone is a Nokia in a Sony Ericsson skin I was trying to think what Symbian it's most like and it's the 'Nokia 5800 XpressMusic' phone which looks similar shape wise and software.
Call me fussy but the C905 weights 136g and Satio is 126g. It's heavier than a K850i but when you compare SE's flashships then this is what It compares to it was a big lump of plastic. What else I don't like..somebody explain why they ditched M2 memory cards? + Cybershot branding?
Too much SE regular features missing no reason to miss them out..wallpaper how to I maximize a smaller pic for the background? why can't I hear the music volume when I turn it up in settings? torch? not even a link to SE's play now store.
Battery life is a bit mince too. To anybody getting it the biggest flaws is how cheap it feels and how bad the software is. Let me be honest and the Nokia N95? I got that phone before the K850 was released and I loved it in pictures, the camera was amazing. When I got the phone it felt a massive lump of plastic and it ran symbian which was more complicated than a maze of 25 rows. Never understood half the features that phone had and that was 2007 it probably had wi-fi but I sold up and got a K850i.
I read posts on here about people saying it's not very SE. I never believed it because how can a phone not be SE? But ok give them slack they are going with the market. The Omnia HD is a nice phone and runs symbian too..that was a plasticy phone too that put me off buying that.
It sounds a harsh mini review but having felt a Pixon 12 (very hard to come by in the UK) the materials are much more LG/Iphoney. It's heavily weighted and it has a brushed chrome front and a tough plastic edge on the back. I feel the satio needed to lump that plastic weight in a smaller shell so it felt more firm to hold. When holding it I can't help but think it's a happy meal toy (same with N95/Omnia HD). Dare I say the screen was more responsive on the LG Viewty? glad I got my Ipod as that really makes you appreciate how good a product apple have.
I like the satio it's new, it's got a big screen and top notch camera. I'll have to get over it's more like a Nokia than a C905 but fair enough. I think I'm right to give a fair view I have owned these phones by SE: T300, K700i , K750i, K800, K850, C905, W995 and now Satio. I'm a big fan of there flagship phones so I'll give Satio a chance. |

On the generic Satio's there are a couple of links to Play Now. The most obvious one is the top left icon in the main menu. There's alsi a bookmark in the internet application along with BBC iPLAYER link. I do agree with your comment about the side sections wearing but i can only see it happening on the black one as its got chromed sides. The red and silver ones are painted matt silver. I would also suggest you look at www.zagg.com and think about buying an Invisible Shield. It adds only 2mm to the phone but provides plenty of protection and also gives your phone a non slip coating.

It's running November 2009 software. Any suggestions on how to do a firmware update I'm sure there's a newer version? Any improvements by doing that?
Another question can you change the top shortcuts on the home screen to new links plus can I change the button I want to use to unlock the phone?

Lock button and top shortcuts are fixed. However I believe there are hacks now available but not sure what they do as i don't hack my phones. There is a way to flash and debrand your phone with any region's firmware for free using just SEUS. I've tried it on both my red and black Satio's and it works perfectly. Go onto www.se-nse.net. Scroll down the front page to find the headline and then follow lollylost's guide. You can't go wrong with it. Just back up everything first using the backup applictaion in the file manager. Once you've finished flashing just restore your backup.
