Hi,

Sony allows to download movies from playnow area in ODF format for Satio. When I tried to play, the phone licence was downloaded and activated and says it is valid for 1 year from date of activation.

I wonder,
1. is ODF movies playable by any Windows based movie players ?
2. if I want to play the movies (assume I will stick to the phone) beyond that 1 year time, does anyone know how to extend the licence ?

Thanks

FAQ
How does PlayNowTM arena movies work?

PlayNowTM arena movies allows you to select from a number of movies from the PlayNowTM arena movies website, download your selected movies to your computer, and then transfer them to your Sony Ericsson phone so you can watch them whenever you like.

My Sony Ericsson phone is compatible with other PlayNowTM arena services, why can't I watch movies?

PlayNowTM arena movies is only available for specific phones listed on the PlayNowTM arena movies website.

Can I download movies directly to my phone without my computer?

No, due to the large size of the movie files involved, it would take too long to download the files directly to your mobile phone. And if your network coverage is lost, you may need to start the download again.

Why can't I play the movies on my computer?

The movies are adapted for viewing on your mobile phone and can only be unlocked on your phone.

My phone is asking me to get a licence for the movie I am trying to play. What is happening?

The phone needs to download a valid licence before it can play movies. This only takes a minute and only the first time you play a movie. All other movies you download will use this licence.

Does my phone have to be connected to the network in order to download and play movies?

Your phone does not need to be connected to the network to download a movie via your computer.

The first time you play a movie on your phone, it will download a licence needed to play movies. Once this is done, you can download and view movies during the whole subscription period without any network access.

Are there any costs when playing or downloading movies?

The first time you play a movie on your phone, it will download a licence needed to play movies. Depending on your phone subscription plan, data transmission charges may apply. If you play the first movie when you are not in your home network, additional transmission charges will apply for the first time registration.

There are never any phone network costs when downloading movies as part of the service. Internet charges may apply when downloading to the computer, depending on your computer broadband service plan.

Why can't I find the movie that I downloaded to my computer?

The browser you use determines where the movie is saved. If you don’t make a selection, the browser downloads to a pre-selected folder. In most browsers, you can select where you want to save the file before the download starts. Make sure you select a place that is easy to find, for example the Desktop.

How do I transfer the movie from the computer to the phone?

1. Connect the phone and the computer with the USB cable that is supplied with the phone.
2. Select Mass storage on the phone. The phone memory and the memory card in the phone will be shown as removable storage devices on the computer.
3. Drag the movie from the folder where it was saved in the computer and drop it in the Video folder on the memory card

What is the difference between the phone memory and the memory card in my phone?

The memory card is an extra memory in the phone where you can save your movies and other files. The phone memory is used by the phone to save all information the phone needs in order to function.

I can’t transfer a movie to the phone because the memory is full. What should I do?

You need to delete old movies on the memory card in the phone:
1. Select Organiser in the main menu in the phone.
2. Select File manager.
3. Select the Videos folder.
4. Select the movie you want to delete.
5. Select Options and Delete.

I have downloaded a movie that was available in another country's selection, but I cannot play it on my phone. Why?

The licence registers the country of your network operator when you play the first movie, and allows you to play movies that are valid for that country.

I have moved to a new country, but cannot play movies for that country on my phone. Why has this happened?

When you first use the service and activate your subscription, the country of your phone service is logged with your licence. You are able to download movies from that country's site, even when you are in a different country. Try downloading from your original country website.

I get a message saying that my subscription has expired. What does this mean?

The licence that is downloaded to your phone when you start the PlayNowTM arena movies service gives you access to the service for a specified time. At the end of this time your subscription access ends. Other movie services may be available in the future on PlayNow arena.

Can I renew my PlayNowTM arena movies subscription?

No. The proposition included with your phone is a limited-time offer. Other movie services may be available in the future on PlayNow arena.

I have a lot of music tracks on my phone, and every time I download a new movie, I have to wait for the phone to index files. Can I avoid this somehow?

If you select Media transfer instead of Mass storage when you connect the phone to the computer with the USB cable, the phone will not index files. The file transfer is, however, somewhat slower. This does not work on Macs.

Will I be able to continue viewing movies after I reset or update the software on my phone?

Yes. The licence is deleted when you reset or update the software on your phone, but the next time you play a movie, the phone will download the licence again. The expiration date of your licence will not change. Depending on your phone subscription plan, data transmission charges may apply. If you play the first movie when you are not in your home network, additional transmission charges will apply for the first time registration.

I could not find a player even which understands ODF format.
what is this ODF format movie ?

Tried converting a normal DVD extract to m4v format and openning through Satio. The file size is nearly 1GB.
It opens and asks to wait while processing, but unfortunately nothing happens and at the end, it just doesnot respond and closes that waiting msg screen.

Is Sation not supposed to play back mp4 or m4v formats ?

Anyone has any idea ?
