Hello all,

I've had a K750i and K810i (both well-loved phones), and yesterday evening bought a new W995 (PAYG).

I haven't used it much yet but the first thing that struck me when I checked my balance is that the in-call volume is pretty low. I've got the volume turned up to maximum and did the Sony Ericsson Update Service as soon as I unpacked it. Strangely it sounds a little louder if I turn the phone the other way around! Not very practical though.

Do I have a dud, and has anyone else noticed this? Any solutions?

(Apologies if this has been addressed before; I did a search before I posted).

What do you mean by in-call volume? the ring volume? change to a louder ringtone then.

Well, 'loud' is very subjective but I've never missed a call on my W995 so I guess for me it's loud enough, and I don't hear any difference between it and my previous phones, it's signifcantly louder than my P990 though. I'm assuming you're refering to the incoming call ring volume? If you're previewing the ringtone while setting it, it is quite low even at highest volume since it's just for preview, but when the actual call comes in, it can be pretty nasty. That's all that I could think of, hope it helps.

Think there's a few crossed wires! I don't mean the ringtones, I mean the sound of the caller on the other end when you press it to your ear (loudspeaker off). Which is what I meant by "in-call volume"! The volume when I'm in a call

The ringtones are louder than my old SEs. I'm happy with the music volume through my Koss PortaPros, that's not an issue either.

ya i understand.. u mean the call speaker above the screen??? of the call volume to the other end with their phone??
if it is speaker above the screen in your end.. i would say the volume is loud enough and clear.... if u want more then use the above package and upload only these two drivers
handset_0_call.wbmxl and handset_0_closed_call.wbmxl
u will see the difference.

Thanks for the replies

It's definitely a bit quieter than my K810i. Might take it back to the shop and see what they reckon.

As an aside, call volume on my K750i got quieter and quieter as time went on, (after 18 months use or so) until I struggled to hear anybody and had to permanently have it on Speakerphone. Had to send it for repair. So maybe it's a fault as my W995 is just out the box!

This was the case when I had the w995 it had crisp sound but far too quiet. The w910 & c510 were the same too. The best one is the c902 thats nice & loud. I think is inconsistant with call quality from handset to handset.

All you had to say was you thought the earphone was quiet

I tried a W995 just now with my K850i and the W995 was much clearer and crisper!

Go into service tests, access it by pressing this key combination in the menu: > * < < * < * (where, * is the star button, < is the left button and > is the right button respectively) then go: Service tests - Earphone

Try how it sounds in different volumes, if is still quiet you might have a faulty handset, so then obviously your option would be to return it

Hope this helps

I doubt it its faulty. I had 4 of these phones replaced a while ago with different problems but each one had the same quiet earpiece. It was crisp but not that loud

i do believe that some w995 has faulty things. this happen probably due to bad manufacturer quality assurance control which manufacture the sets and these manufacturer were oppointed by se (oem). in my case the in-call volume just work fine...clear and loud enough for my ears. i think se should monitor their appointed licensed third party manufacturer by randomly check the phone before sending them for commercial use

btw my w995 manufactured in china on year 2009 week 35 (o9w35)

Well, as my phone was new and I'm paranoid about scratching it I kept the manufacturer's sticky screen protectors on. Turned out it was covering the earpiece and it sounds slightly louder without it

Just got a silicone cover from ebay (and new screen protectors). I can't for the life of me work out how to get the silicone cover on! It's in two bits, with "runners" for the slide facility.

Am I dumb?! (Judging by my first paragraph..yes, I probably am)!

I appreciate all your replies. Thank you

Louise
