Cingular Not Supporting Triband but Quadband |

Today I learned that Cingular will Never Sell Triband phones again becuase they are now only going to sell Quadband phones and Dual Band Phones to support the New GSM Channel EGSM 850 for here in the U.S.

Have not heard of any quadband devices being available. The Moto V600 will not be available before fall. Does anyone know of any quadband GSM phones in the market?

Quadband is actually not an accurate term, the term is GAIT, it's a phone that is GSM and TDMA, though I've not seen any that are triband GSM with TDMA |

A GAIT Phone supports both TDMA and GSM technologies. Cingular is now carrying phones that support both 850 & 1900 (GSM) technologies. Some of those phones are the Mot. C331 and Nokia 6590. As for "Quadband", never heard of it. |

The Moto V600 will be a GSM quadband phone supporting the new 850Mhz GSM band in USA plus the 1900 GSM band already in use in the Amer. cont. This along with the 900 and 1800 GSM bands that are used in the rest of the world. So the term quadband exists.

I guess nobody here has heard of the NEC 515. AT&T will be offering this Quadband phone by end of 2nd qtr 2003. |

The first 850 MHz network went live in November in Panama. I did a little research and I too discovered how Cingular apparently beat everyone into obtaining the licence from the FCC. I am guessing though that for the sake of competition more licences will be rolled out to the other operators.
The NEC phone looks real nice... you can see it here:

It reminds me a lot of my GD87. Panasonic is going to come out with a quad band phone sometime next year, and Alcatel is already making the chips to support the new 850 band. |

The NEC phone looks almost exactly like the GD87. Too bad these phones are not readily available in the states. Lucky me, I have a GD87. |

The advantage of quadband phones over triband ones will be their ability to offer roaming in rural USA and elsewhere in America where the old 850MHz TDMA networks will switch to GSM. 1900 GSM does not provide sufficient coverage plus 850 has more range.

A gait phone is tdma and gsm. Only Nokia has one on the market.currently. The motorola c331 is 850 mhz? Dont think so? Liken that V600 tho!
