Hi,

I wonder if anyone can give any advice. I've just upgraded to a W995 and can't seem to get the GPS to work at all. I initially thought it was a fault with the phone, so had it replaced by Orange. This wasn't a bad move as I now have an unbranded one

However, even this 2nd phone can't seem to see any satellites. The first time I tried it it managed to get a lock and locate me - since then nothing. I've had the phone outside, stationary with a good view of the sky for over 30 minutes and not one satellite has shown up on the Status Info page. Is it possible that the GPS chipset has got confused/locked up ? Is there anything I can do to get it working again ?

The phone is running the latest firmware for it from SEUS R1FA035.

Thanks,
Jerry.

dont know if this is the case, but perhaps the GPS needs the AGPS for it to function. how is your RF?

or perhaps the satellite just had a hiccup. i know i have had a proper gps unit unable to lock under ideal conditions

aGPS works fine - If I use the GoogleMaps (v3.0.0) on the phone it gets my location roughly correct (as expected) but never gets a lock with the satellites (it says 'waiting for gps'). Everything else appears to work fine - GSM/HSDPA/3G all ok, wifi and bluetooth all work perfectly.

Frustrating

Hi, have you tried updating your firmware with SEUS?

I have R1GA026 and my GPS works fine the first time i used it, it lasted about 8 minutes to find any satellites though.

Have you activated the GPS in the menu under settings?
Where do U live? The further north U live on the globe the longer it takes to get in contact with the satellites. If it is cloudy (thick clouds) it can also affect the reception. It is much easier for a GPS to get in contact with the satellites if U stand still (not driving a car).

Good luck!

I had this same problem with my C905. I did the master reset after the update (something I now do after every update) and all works fine. I know some people have to do this a couple of times.
