Travelling to London from Leicester |

Just wondered whether someone could help me.
Next week myself and my girlfriend are going to London for 2 days (one night stop) and im trying to arrange transport down there.
Looking at trains they seem way to pricey and coaches are a possibility but I was also looking at driving down to the outskirts then parking up and catching the underground into London.
Now I never do this and do not know London too well only from various trips. Where could I travel to and parking over night without it costing too much.
Any help would be great.
Regards
James

My area is fairly crime-free, Cheshunt/Goffs Oak/Cuffley area (EN7 and EN8)
Cuffley is more or less the safest of the 3. You can leave the car on Tolmers Road EN7, and walk to Cuffley Station (First Great Western, if I'm not mistaken) and be at Finsbury Park Tube in under half an hour.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: Tolmers Rd could be EN6. Not 100% sure. Either way, it's right next to Cuffley Station.
EDIT 2: Just to reaffirm the "crime-free", Sir Terry Leahy, Tesco CEO, lives up the road.

Sorry but I always take it upon myself to support the train
Get yourself down the Coventry, then London Midland return any day is £10 each, Virgin Trains is £14 each, although only on weekend, these are advance prices though so dont forget to book.
Really you should get the train, it will drop you at Euston station and the tube is literally down a flight of stairs. Can't get more convenient than that!

Depending on how much you're willing to spend on trains there are several options:
Drive to Potters Bar, Hadley Wood, Harfield, or any town along the train line, park on the secured parking lots at the stations, and take a train directly to Kings Cross.
Or drive to Cockfosters station and park there overnight, also secured. You can take the Picadilly line directly to central London, for Convent Garden/Leicester Square/Picadilly Circus. Or change at Finsbury (just walk to the platform across) if you want to go to Oxford street.

It's safer to park on the street than it is to park at Cockfosters Station. By no means is that place secure.

A friend of mine parks his car there everyday and has no problems at all. Then again I would also advise to leave it outside London at a train station that has a secured car park. Or take the train from wherever you departing, but that wasn't the question asked.
