D-SLR: Nikon D3000 or Olympus E620? |

Guys, I’ve decided to get a new D-SLR. I’m currently using Canon Power-shot S5-IS. I’ve found above mention two models in my country in my price range. Do you have any recommended model? Above two models; which one is best? Hope some of you can tell me some valuable information about SLR.
PS. I never used any SLR before. |

I can recommend you Nikon, I'm using it for a long time now and I never had a single problem so far.

I'd recommend getting a cheap second hand Nikon D40, or something similar rather than a D3000 |

Definitely the D3000 of the two. Olympus DSLR cameras use the Four Thirds-sized sensors. Really crappy sensors.

You could also consider the Sony A330. Same sensor as the Nikon (made by Sony) but adds live views with swiveling display and built in image stabalisation for around the same price as the Nikon. |

So I shouldn't go for Olympus as @Mizzle said.
I’ll look the Sony A330 if I find in my country.
Is there any other model that I should consider also? |

Don't consider Sony either. Their signal processing sucks big time. Nikon does a much better job.

S5-IS picture quality is ok for me, but one thing I don’t like that the removable AA size battery. It’s totally annoying. I already bought 3 sets but none of last long. So I’m going to have now with built in battery.
I’m going to miss few features from S5, like swiveling display, live views on LCD, Video recording and capable of taken wide resolution pictures.
May be this is silly question, is D3000 produce better quality than S5 noticeably?
My budget is around $850US. Is there any another model from Nikon will be good than D3000 within the budget, which have some above features that missing from D3000.

Yes, any DSLR will produce significantly better results than a compact camera.
Honestly, I wouldn't consider a Canon DSLR either. The Canon processing is far too harsh for my taste and colour saturation and contrast levels are generally too high. They also have a tendency to over-sharpen pictures. I don't know about you, but I prefer normal sharpening levels and then have the option to sharpen further in post-processing if necessary.

I prefer natural or normal sharpening pic.
One of my friend told me that, I should wait little more, save some money then get Nikon D5000. |
