Will the W995 be the last of it's kind? |

Will the W995 be the last decent phone from SE that's non touch and non smart phone? Are they likely to have a slider with a 12MP camera not semi touch just normal?
I'm hoping to hold onto my W995 as it's the last in the line of devices with a lightly smaller screen from the K700, K750i, K800, K850i, C902, C905.
I know Walkman and Cybershot brands are gone. Out them all the K750i and W995 are best. Keypad wise the K850 looks well out dated now. The keypad fell of my C905 it was utter crap. The W995 is has the smoothest keypad out them all.
Satio's all very well but it's an end of the era for half decent phones like the W995. There's few decent sliders and candy bar type phones out now with features. Phones like the Ultratouch from Samsung are crap.
So anybody know if SE are likely to abandon this format now? Has smart phones won? |

As you can see almost all the new good phones are touchscreen ones... I think that they will be more common in the future. So the high ends may be only touchscreen phones in my opinion. But who knows  as crazy as they are they may just make another slider like the W995...

I have to disagree with some of the responses above. The W995 is a great phone, probably the last of it's kind since SE is has come out with a new generation of mobiles. Just this morning, while on a moving vehicle, I was listening to a podcast (through my BT earpiece) while the RSS facility was updating my web feeds via HSPA internet connection. Had a phone call or come in the download would not have been interrupted & the podcast audio would have continued as before after the call(incoming text has no effect whatsoever on either process). While nearly all phones boast of being capable of multi-tasking most don't do it really well.
Touchscreens arent' really necessary unless you've got a display of at least 3 inches. The sound quality of my W995 is one of the best I've experienced & the cam - while not equal to the top of the line Cybershots - is pretty good.
Though I haven't heard anything official, my guess that all of SE's high end phones will be newgen while their midrange & low end phones will run the legacy operating systems.

I don't think so, there is still a massive demand for phones with just keypads. The Walkman and Cyber-shot branding has been very successful. I feel Sony Ericsson just decided to move forward with touch-screens as there is an increasing demand of them after the success of the iPhone. There is however a large part of the market who still prefer the original SE style phones and SE would be stupid just to ignore this.

The W995 has been a massive hit and shows SE at its best. I agree with the two posts above.
The W995 / C905 are great phones to use and shows there is a demand for a traditional keypad. The multi-tasking ability is hugely underated - everything you want to do can be just one or two clicks away thanks to the brilliant shortcut menu and you can have a great deal going on at once.

c905 sucks in anyway...
w995 is the best phone se ever made !! great quality , very stable software , and above all A DECENT PHONE !!
Hope there will be more in the future for SE !
