OK, I'm confused here: what's the difference between email boxes and sync email?
Sync email is literally worthless because all its settings are locked to PC SUite connection.... dumb.

Next question is why on Earth would Satio limit my email downloads to 'headers only' instead of giving me an option to define, say, up to 10kB size? It is such an unbelievably stupid idea I cannot believe this is the only setting but on my phone it is... what am I doing wrong?

Third question why is it that I cannot define a date period but only the number of emails it should keep...?

Last question: even with these almost uselessly limited options it quits a second after it's connected via wireless but when I check back there are new headers download...

...does anyone at SonyEricsson ever used this device for more than music playing and photo?

Seriously: email is a basic feature nowadays and after so many years it's not hard to get it right. Alas, they couldn't do it with Satio so far.
Unless I'm doing something wrong or they will update the phone to fix these I won't be keeping this otherwise veyr nice unit for long, I'm afraid - I have to keep up with my emails, period.

This is S60 , I don't have a Satio (yet ), but S60 phones usually download the headers and when you wish to read the email, you open it and the phone downloads the complete email, so where's the problem ?

I think I recall that my old K800i's email client behaved exactly the same, it downloaded the headers only.
I use google mail and I used the settings described on googlemail's help pages for Symbian phones with IMAP without any problems. I also installed googlemail's java gmail application, and I have not yet decided which one is the preferable to use. Anyway, having google mail as email provider lets google handle my emails and it's not very important for me to keep copies of emails on the mobile phone. Google also pops several other email servers for me automatically.

It's not about Gmail, it's about email. And the ability to read it when I do not have coverage (eg subway.)

Since apparently it's not perfectly clear for everyone including devs at Sony Ericsson let me remind you, folks: the idea behind a local mailbox is that IT IS LOCAL, when I decide to open a mail it's there, it's ready, it's been downloaded previously, won't waste any more of my time nor I have to stay in coverage to be able to read my emails.

A dumb, useless header list is not a mailbox.

Since yesterday I talked to Nokia owners and they have confirmed that it's a platform limitation which is more than retarded, I must say - but at least Nokia includes a perfectly fine email client which even supports Exchange sync including Google Calendar & Gmail syncing, another thing that Satio is unable to perform (RoadSync is a buggy piece of junk and DataViz won't support it, they told me flat out to go and cry to Sony Ericsson if it does not work.)

So let me see what we have here:

- a instead of basic local mail client we only got a useless header aggregator - no email client
- in better case forget using Google Calendar & Gmail via Exchange sync
- in worst case forget any kind of Exchange sync

This is a huge FAILURE in my book and I didn't even mention the crippled Walkman UI - if you had a W960 or even Xperia you know how it should work - or the severely limited BT file transfers etc etc.

I trust SE devs but there are a lot to address to make this phone useful for anyone other than some rich kids looking for a Walkman that shoots better-than-average pictures - I work in IT, offline email availability is a necessity for me when I'm not in my office, all my monitoring apps, scripts etc report by mail. And this thing is nothing new, it was already there in other phones including SE ones years ago, I don't understand why the rush with this half-baked phone, SE...

Both when using POP and IMAP, the email program does keep the downloaded messages for a while, but I do understand the problem, i.e. that each message has to be downloaded explicitly, even though I haven't experienced this as a problem, since I personally only download messages that currently seems interesting while being mobile. After all, the handset, regardless of screen resolution, cannot match a 22" computer screen. I I usually don't have the coverage problem, I have reception even in the subway

Downloaded ProfiMail tryout, it's really good. However it doesn't really work with landscape mode - bottom corner buttons does not 'click' - and has some weird stuff going on when I try to set up AP use any other way than Automatic...

...and it still does not do any good for missing Exchange Sync/Google Sync etc...

...SE, are you listening? UPDATE ROADSYNC, NOW!

Hi. I dunno if there is anybody that can point me in the right direction here...

Basically My Satio was delivered on monday. Beautfiul Phone, awesome camera you know the score....
I tried to hook up my msn mailbox with the phone, managed that alright. I tried to email a friend through the phone, and the email was just sent to my outbox, I then tried to send it again from the outbox but the email just sits there. Does anybody know why this is happening, and how I could sort it out?

Thanks.

@Cookie18,
It sounds as though there is a problem with your outgoing settings. Someone else on here also had a problem due to service restrictions for their country but if you are downloading OK then this probably isn't the reason. If you're still struggling post your settings here and we'll see what we can do.

Satio comes with RoadSync which does the exchange sync even sync with Google mail.
