I work as a system developer, and have designed a website CMS we use for our customers websites.
Some time ago I implemented a little "Snap'n'Upload" MIDlet to let our customers quickly take photos with their phone, and upload them to their website instantly. Recently I also added the option of sending photos to their website by e-mail.
But now I've learned that my Nokia N82 lets me do it a much better way! I can add new services in "Online sharing". This is really great, because it means I can add our CMS in my Nokia and then implement the Atom Publishing Protocol on the server hosting the CMS. Brilliant! Then it'll be possible for our customers to use their Nokia phone to send pictures to their website, very fast. Simply take the picture, and then select to send it to their website right away. Much better and much faster than the two other options. Well done Nokia!
Personally I prefer SE phones though, so I really hope that's what the "New service" in my Aino also will allow me to do next time I upgrade with new firmware. However, I spoke with SE Callcenter yesterday, and he said that SE has no plans whatsoever to implement this option. And that just sounds completely illogical and silly to me. What then will the "New service" option in Medias -> Photo -> Webalbums do??? He said something about new services had to go via Playnow.
PLEASE tell me that isn't true. That would be the most stupid decision from SE in newer time. Should Nokia be the only ones offering this? Why???
Sony Ericsson should implement the "Medias -> Photo -> Webalbums -> New Service" option like this:
User should input a URL (to an AtomPub service) and a username and password. Some other options could be Account Name, and a value that defines what size pictures should automatically resize to before sending.
Some one with connections to SE, please talk some sense into them.
