Few questions regarding the Satio and its touchscreen |

At the moment i have got a Samsung Pixon 12 M8910 but i am thinking about maybe getting a satio.
The thing i would really like to know is what is the touchscreen like? Is it very responsive? Do you have to press down hard on the screen? My Samsung M8910 has a resistive touchscreen and i find it very responsive and i do not have to press down hard on it, If the Satio has a poor touchscreen i think it would put me off buying it.
Also how good is the camera and things like battery life?
Thanks. |

Not really because its just general phone advice.
Put it this way, its the best touch screen phone ive ever used. Its the first ive owned (except for pda's which were also touchscreen but you had to use the stylus). Not many touches go unregistered so i was impressed when i first got it. You dont have to press hard at all. In fact im scared of breaking the glass so i touch it very gently and it still works fine. Im not sure how it stacks up against the iPhone though, from my experience the iPhone has the best touchscreen for sensitivity.
Battery life on my Satio is fine. The phone lasts me 2 days however i do charge it daily because i like a full battery for the following day.

Being resistive, you do need to press down - and it can be a little unresponsive (but that's because the phone can pause/freeze for other reasons - not because the screen itself stops working).
A firmware is definitely needed and will hopefully fix some issues - but otherwise, it's pretty good. The phone clearly does a lot more than the Pixon12 - but having one of these too, I can say that the Pixon12 is no bad phone and will suit people who are after something more 'contained'. S60v5 is a bit of a mess.

if SE sort out the firmware like they did with the K850 this handset could be a real winner. hopefully a new firmware will be here soon! |

touch sensitivity of this phone is good. against iphone I dont think you can rank this one to be a winner, but not bad. iphone has the best touch interface no doubt. saying that, sation is goodin touch and responsive.
I dont know if the branding plays a role in phone's response because I know various cases where voda branded firmwares are sluggish. may be someone with a simfree phone can give more information. |

The touch screen functions satisfactory. It's my first phone with a touch screen, so I don't have much to compare with, though. The glass surface is very hard and stiff, and it does not seem bend at al lwhen you push on it, so I imagine it does not make anny sense to press hard on it. The correct method is tapping, i.e. a short distinct knock is usually more effective than pressing hard.
The battery life performance is constantly improving. At first, I had to charge several times per day, but now I'm down to two days between charges.
There are certainly a few annoying bugs left in the software, which hopefully will be sorted out in new firmware, whenever that will be released. The bugs are considerably small though, and can be circumvented by approaching the task from another angle. For example, I cannot assign a picture to a contact from the phone book. Whenever I try, when the picture selection list pops upp, it disappears when I try to scroll the list, and it even leaves the phone book app. If I find the picture in the media manager instead, there is an option to assign th picture to a contact that works, though. Some of the built-in themes seem to mis-behave sometimes also.
I usually avoid branded phones. The major problem is usually that bugs in the firmware must be corrected in the unbranded version first, and only then, the branded version can be corrected, and hence, a known bug will take longer time to be fixed in a branded version. Also, generic system update sites, like SonyEricsson's site, may refuse to update a branded phone, since they haven't got the correct and compatible software, and instead, you wil lbe forced to go to the system operator's update site, which may not be free of charge, as SonyEricsson's is. In addition to that, the branded version of the software can very well contain its branding-specific bugs, that are not in the unbranded software. Branded software may also sometimes contain restrictions and replaced functionality or programs that favorizes the network operator's services before the global services accessible in an unbranded version.
Branding is usually also performed by programmers employed by the network operator and not by SonyEricsson, so there might be a risk that they haven't access to the same specifications and have the in-depth knowledge of all dark corners of the software that the designers of the original software have.
I think everyone should boycot branded versions of all phones. If nobody wants to buy a branded phone, the vendors will very soon realize this and stop with that silly thing.
