Excuse me if I sound incredibly stupid but I dont really know a lot about the technical stuff to do with mobile phones!
Anyway, I was wondering if it is possible to get a chipped T68 with free text messages and stuff? Im guessing not but what are chipped phones, how do they work and who chips them?
Oops thats about 10 questions but I think it would be really cool to get a chipped T68, although illegal. |

chipped mobile phone? ehhhh... where have you heard that? 
all registration of your calls and sms are done by the MSC (simply explained it's like a switchboard for the mobile network) in the GSM network.
There is no way you can send free sms, make cheeper calls just by altering something in your mobile phone.

There was a key press for "orange" or "nokia" don't remember which sorry, this used to let you dial free calls for 10 mins after the key press, it was apparantley for the service technicians to use when trying to find problems with phones. |

What you may be referring to is sim cloning, this is very dodgy and very illegal, it is where you clone a sim card that is in use, usually owned and used by a heavy user like a business phone, once the card is clones all calls you make and sms you send are billed to the legitimate owner of the sim! Very BAD |

where have you heard that? if you mean the service technicians that are repairing the phones they use ordinary pre paid sim cards to test the phones....

a chipped phone refers to the old analog pre gsm network phones, if you have an account i can clone your phone and make calls with my clone and they are billed to your account.
the chipped phones of late have been of the Philips varietly prepaid mobiles that stored credit information on the phone rather than the network.
you can't chip a t68 or any other gsm phone because the sim card is what has the account details...unless you've got the old Philips phones that were around a couple of years ago on BT Cellnet.
how these work is the phone itself has the billing mechanism built into the chip of the phone so when you use it your credit runs out accordingly...when the phones been chipped it's programmed to top itself back up when your credit runs out by switching it off and back on again.

i had a bt cellnet phillips c12. everytime i sent an sms and gave me the 'sending' screen, i just switched off the phone immediateley and the sms never got billed!!

I was just curious how it worked because I always met guys down the pub who had 'chipped' phones that could send endless free text messages and i always wondered how.(this was years before BT's Genie servicecame out)
I didnt really expect that it would work on a T68 because all the phones that were chipped were crap, i was just hoping!

no problem, btw if it was only free sms and no free calls they may have had a Message centre number that enabled them to send free sms.
these were available a few years ago, not sure if they're still around but i heard the UK service providers got wind of this and clamped down. |

You aren't talking of *#746025625# because that did not give free calls!!! It just said sim clock stop allowed. It doesn't transmit any info to your service provider, and do you realy think any network would be soooooo stupid to let people use it???
