It's funny they keep on saying it's 12.1 megapixels, considering 4000 x 3000 = 12,000,000 and not 12,100,000. One would think they cannot do simple calculations

Digital camera pixel resolution is generally described by the sensor capability rather than the size of the images they produce (or effective resolution)

I'll be nice to see some camphone images taken by a professional photographer to end this nonsense from amateur photographers on how good or bad Satio's (or any other 5MP+ camphone) camera quality is.

You don't get a professional photographer along side the phone, so amateur taken photos are still more relevant in any debate about camera phones

Hardly. Most camera resolutions are described by the effective resolution and a little extra to make it look more impressive to ignorant consumers. By the way, the sensor in the Satio is a 12.25 megapixel sensor.

well, thats certainly been my experience and also what I have read on the more popular digital camera sites like DPREVIEW. I can't imagine that saying resolution is 12.1 megapixels rather than 12 megapixel is going to be much of a wow factor, even for ignorant consumers!
I'm still not convinced about the sensor resolution as there is still speculation whether it is the original IMX060PQ or, as some believe, a modified version of that. Certainly the latest white paper states 12.1 megapixels. but thats a discussion more for another topic and indeed its already been debated in the original satio topic too

Take my primary DSLR as an example, the Nikon D700.
Shoots photos at a resolution of 4256 x 2832 pixels (12,052,922 pixels or 12.05 megapixels). Nikon says the effective resolution is 12.1 megapixels (which is about 47k pixels higher than the real effective resolution). The sensor is a 12.9 megapixel sensor.
I really can't see where the 12.1 megapixels come from - it's certainly not the effective resolution or the sensor total.
And yes, it may not seem like that big of a difference, but I've heard people saying that a 3.2 megapixel camera is better than a 3 megapixel camera - simply because of the added 0.2 megapixels, which again in reality propably is more like an added 0.146 megapixels.

All you get it a picture taken of your eye? Surely free Satio's could be given to all winners? That'd might actually intrigue me to enter...
