Sony Ericsson ‘s new T715 is among an array of mid-range phones released recently. You have nokia 6300 classic, 5130 Xpressmusic, Samsung S3500i, Star and the list goes on. Will T715 stand out from its peer or will it sink into the background as another ordinary phone?

The petit paper box houses the T715 phone, a battery, a charger, a handsfree set and a user’s guide. Nothing fancy, nothing new.

One of the advantages of T715 is its handiness and its favorable size. It weighs only 93g, with dimensions of 91.5 x 48 X 14.9mm - a really pocket-friendly handset. The display is a 256K-color TFT. It performs very well under sunlight as well.

The alphanumeric keypad looks kind of plain but it is functional and practical which is the most important, right?

You have the model number printed at the bottom of the phone. It’s minor, but I would love it to be clean.

Volume rocker and shutter release on the ride side.

Fast Port on the other. A rather standard Sony Ericsson layout.

The color scheme of the phone is very pleasing. Take this rogue pink and metallic silver combination as an example, simple and stylish.

The camera is more than you can ask for: 3.2MP with flash, employing autofocus and onscreen editing software. You can do geotagging and record video with it. The details of the subtle geometric prints are attractive.

I am glad to see MicroSD in a Sony Ericsson phone. One step forward.

The standard Sony Ericsson menu. I like the desktop calendar reminder though. Friends’ birthdays will not be missed anymore.

Sony Ericsson T715 is more than adequate for a mid-range phone. It has a luxurious look. The functionality is sufficient. Integrated camera, HSDPA connection, drag and drop MediaGo, FM radio, there might me a few fanciful features missing, but still a delightful phone.

Hey that looks very cool. I think the T700 has some serious competition.

Whoa, wait a second. Autofocus? Are you sure about that?

Does it really have autofocus then?

Also, how many SE phones do you have?!

Pretty little phone. I hate sliders but this design is lovely... not in that colour though.

No it doesn't have autofocus.

It has a nice little LED light though.

Just bought one a few hours ago (the galaxy silver one).
It's nice little slider. It "looks" quite expensive (and it actually is, 188 euro's for a non AF 3.2Mpixel slider... wooow) Anyway it's a standard model with standard features. The Google Maps that everyone is talking about is NOT on the phone unlike that search option that's also being mentioned. It;'s suposed to be HSDPA but it's unclear whether it's 7,2 or 3.6Mbits/s (I presume the latter). As soon as I get the modem-function to work I'll investigate this furter. It also has a menu option to use the internet-connection from the USB-connected PC to use internet on the phone (oposite o/t modem-function). It also has a nice slideshow mode to show off your pics.

Funny thing is that although SE dumbed it's M2 cards in favour for MicroSD, they still use their proprietary all-in-one connector (this time it's located on top left side o/t phone).

Just had it so hopefully they improved durability and build quility of their recent devices. Otherwise this will definitly be my LAST SE that I ever buy.

For your info I previously had the following: A T68i, T610i, a couple of K750i (used by several family members), a K800i (used by by mom and dropped in a bucket of water last week ), A K550i (this replaced my K750i after I gave it to my mom when she dropped her's) and this T715 (the replacement for the K800i my mom last used as a step-up from her K750i). I currently use a Samsung Omnia (1) myself and stopped using SE phones after troubles with my K550i. In fact the model that I currently have is already a replacement and it too has faults. The first one had a daft camera module and it's replacement has a broken vibrator after less than a year.

So I really hope this T715 will be better.

Any other T715 users with some experience in here?

Cheers,

EPDM
