Aino: Step In The Right Direction or Epic Fail? |

Now that Aino is out, everyone's (myself included) excited with a fresh newly specced device from SE carrying a shiny new concept of Entertainment Unlimited. We all thought and knew from a couple of years ago that the pressures from the competition and from SE's own customers fell on their deaf ears. And suddenly a gleam of new hope, they appear to be 'interested' to get back in the game. But unfortunately judging from the largely discouraging user reviews I'm beginning to wonder if SE has left the game for so long and they forgot how it is played. Are we expecting too much? Are we nitpicking while getting used to the phone or does it actually represent SE's surviving lack of communication with the users?
From first glance most of the problems highlighted seems to be hardware related so fw updates might not remedy issues to some extent. Or are we still able to enjoy their offerings despite the shortcomings? These are my ponderings, your opinions are welcome

Neither. Personally I think Aino is great.

Too early to tell. No sales figures yet. I'll be watching out for them though.

Yeah, sales figures should be interesting. I was quite surprised at how cheap it is here. Is it cheap elsewhere?

Well, poor VGA framerate recording, games not playing smoothly and lesser than expected camera optics to name a few, all of which are multimedia qualities central to the notion of Entertainment. I love what they're attempting which should be commended for contributing to the diversity of the market. I'm just not up for another 'potentially' brilliant device by them and I'm kind of wondering is it exactly that?
@Muhammad-Oli
Yes, it's cheap here in Malaysia as well which is making it very tempting for me

/ Frame rates are very much software related.Games not playing smoothly? Where did you get that? And i love the Aino's camera. The samples i have seen are way better than my c905. But, tell me. Which of them are hardware related? |

Apparently it doesn't handle vibrations in games well and does get stuck here and there. Can't find it to quote right now but i'm sure someone will verify it here. Of course framerates aren't purely software related, if it was, why wouldn't they have implemented it in, say, C905 when there was all that hype saying it was gonna have vga recording. And well, the camera is subjective, it doesn't necessarily apply to everyone but nevertheless, a hardware issue

It was me who wrote that, and I experienced it while testing a game I made myself (www.UkkosJourney.com), which I've tested on over 20 different phones/brands. The game halts for split seconds here and there on the Aino, while it doesn't on other devices. It's nothing crucial, but annoying nevertheless. I also think it takes much longer loading a game on the Aino compared to e.g. a K800 or W760. I definitely think the JavaME part should be improved.
Only Samsung U600 halts the game for a split-second too sometimes. Surely the Aino should do better than an old Samsung U600.
The game also halts for split-seconds when a vibrator is used yes. And not just my own game, but other games as well.
But I believe SE have made improvements to the JavaME part in other devices, so I think they'll fix this in next firmware as well.

^There it goes. Mr_lou, i am seriously considering the Aino. How is the overall speed of the device? Is the touchscreen fast and stable? I am sure firmware updates shall fix the niggles. Are there re in probs with build quality? |

I'm actually quite happy with the speed of the UI. The menu-system seems faster than any other SE phone I've tried, and such things makes me happy. I think the build-quality feels very good, but the slider does seem to be a little loose.
The touch-screen has frozen on me 3 times now. The first 2 times I restarted the phone to get it to work again. The 3rd time (yesterday) I got it working again after cleaning the screen a little bit. Not sure if it's related though, but could be.
When the touch-screen does work, I do find it to be better than I expected. It's almost as good as the touch on my HTC Dream (Android).
The current most annoying things to me are:
1) Video-recording and camera should be improved, especially regarding indoor recording/snaps. They are way too dark. (Setting on Night-mode does give a better picture, but also results in only 6 fps, which is not acceptable).
2) I cannot connect the Aino to my computer as a Flash Stick. It's supposed to, but it doesn't work, neither on Windows or Linux.
3) JavaME stuff needs to be improved
4) When talking on the phone using the bluetooth headset, apparently the other person gets a lot of noise from me. Disconnecting the headset and using just the phone makes the noise go away.
The current most impressive things in my opinion are:
1) Really good sound quality, especially for the mp3-player, but also even when equalizers cannot be used. I also like the screens you can set in the media-player (such as a tape or CD).
2) Fast menu-system, that's simply so important to me.
3) JavaME stuff doesn't constantly ask permission to use various stuff, like internet or camera. That's really great!
I really prefer buttons on my phone, so the Aino is perfect for me. But those who prefer touch will also love that JavaME applications actually also support the touch screen. That means that applications such as Opera Mini will run with touch-support, where you can click links with your finger etc. |

If Aino had:
-Larger, AMOLED and higher resolution display, not this 3-year old 3" FWQVGA.
-Outer d-pad.
-Stereo speakers.
-3.5mm audio jack.
-MicroUSB.
-Better video recording.
-DivX and XviD support.
-Powerful RAM, processor and graphics accelerator.
-hmmm maybe xenon flash.
It could have been much better. However, the Aino that we already know is EPIC FAIL.
And SE would never implement all of these specifications. SE is the stingiest

I had a horrible feeling everyone would start moaning on here about things not being perfect. Has anyone ever actually had a perfect phone? Cheer up people it could be worse some people in life don't even have a phone cos they can't afford one Though at the same time i guess you feel short changed again cos of your hard earned cash is somewhat muted by poor features or crap software. Bloody make everyone miserable. Again Don't we just love em? Is it a love hate relationship sometimes with
