Hi there,
I have a factory unlocked iphone 3gs, and the itunes store is not yet available in my country. How do I go about installing apps/games on the thing?
Many thanks. |

interesting question that I have not seen before. even googling doesn't bring up much for this scenario.
I'm wondering if you could get someone in say UK or US to create you an account whether that would work.
Otherwise, if you 3GS is not OS 3.1 then you could look at jailbreaking and installing apps available via cydia or installer

Hi Masseur.
I'm on 3.1, and would definitely prefer to keep the legit software.
I think itunes verifies the country through ip, and I'm not sure I can bypass this through a proxy sever or a similar workaround.
As much as I love apple and the device, they really piss me off with their red tape.
Do I have to jailbreak to install apps via cydia or installer? |

hmmm. I only suggested that as I can use my UK itunes account to download stuff when I am back home in Australia
but of course both countries do support itunes
might be worth a try anyway of you know someone

I don't know whether this would help, at least for free apps:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
I used those (or similar) instructions to get a US iTunes Store account (I'm in the UK) and made up a US address.
