so far SCI is thought to have been increasing internet speed on cdma, but i've found otherwise. SCI, for Slot Cycle Index, determines how often the cdma device polls network for coverage and incoming packets (source: PPCGeeks.com.) the setting can be found under "Modem Settings" page in the device's EPST.
i'm on cdma2000 800mhz with SCI set to 1 which means 2.56 seconds per slot, but has been proven ineffective (as it should) but drains battery faster - at least in the last one year during which period my "experiment" takes place.
i've found the connection is "faster" enough when accessed during not-a-peak-time (that's usually 2.00-7.00am.), when the network isn't so crowded. this also helped preserving battery power.
or maybe it's because i'm living in rural area in which signal and coverage are lacking? -90 to -100dbm, or simply put, only 2-4 bars of normally 5 signal bar.
this NAM.txt though not related directly with what i'm talking about, describes what's going on. y'see? i must share the narrow (and expensive) bandwidth and limited resources with bad guys who are curious what actually i'm doin while on the net - not content to be sloppy, but that's, oh my gah, outrageous.
