First of all, if you had been given a choice between C901 and Nikon S200 or its similar range/quality digital cameras, please take the C901, because what you about to see is the truth.. LOL..

Sony Ericsson C901
* 5MP cameraphone
* Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 280/100 ===> ƒ/2.8 : : : That's all I know LOL!
Okay, let's get it started! Below are images taken with maximum size of each camera, 5MP for SE and 7MP for Nikon, however they are all resized to 1024x768. I know it may seems unfair to the SE phone, but let's find out anyway..
C901
Auto Mode
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 280/100 ===> ƒ/2.8
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/8 second ===> 0.125 second
# ISO Speed Ratings = 400
Twilight Portait Scene (therefore the lower ISO)
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 280/100 ===> ƒ/2.8
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/8 second ===> 0.125 second
# ISO Speed Ratings = 200
(focus is slightly upward)
Twilight Lanscape (same ISO but longer shutter speed)
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 280/100 ===> ƒ/2.8
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/2 second ===> 0.5 second
# ISO Speed Ratings = 200
(Out of focus, but slightly more details appear)
Nikon S200
Auto mode but I fixed the ISO at 50. (You'll need a tripod or super steady hands+hold your breath to capture like this!)
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 31/10 ===> ƒ/3.1
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 10/10 second ===> 1/1 second ===> 1 second
# ISO Speed Ratings = 50
Both cameras are at same positions, but the Nikon had a pop-out lens, so the objects seems slightly nearer.
At this point, we had a clear winner. Which is the Nikon S200, with bigger aperture and proper lens, it handles lowlight shots better than C901 (not than any PnS tho!)
But at ISO 50, hand-held is nearly impossible with the Nikon! Slight movement will ruins all your pics even in bright daylight!
C901
All auto mode. [hand-held]
(Only registration numbers are edited here)
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 280/100 ===> ƒ/2.8
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/320 second ===> 0.00313 second
# ISO Speed Ratings = 50
(I personally like this shot!)
All auto. [hand-held]
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 280/100 ===> ƒ/2.8
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 1/500 second ===> 0.002 second
# ISO Speed Ratings = 50
(Colors a little bit pale and cold, but that's normal problem of C901 and can be fixed easily with computer. The trees behind are okay)
Nikon S200
with ISO 50 [hand-held]
daylight white-balance
(Funny colors on leaves!)
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 31/10 ===> ƒ/3.1
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 10/1271 second ===> 1/127.1 second ===> 0.00787 second
# ISO Speed Ratings = 50
As I said, at ISO 50, blurry shots, and noticable distortion around the corners too!
[hand-held]
daylight white-balance
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 10/1255 second ===> 1/125.5 second ===> 0.00797 second
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 31/10 ===> ƒ/3.1
# ISO Speed Ratings = 68
Yucksss! This time ISO is not fixed!
Auto white balance
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 35/10 ===> ƒ/3.5
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 10/2133 second ===> 1/213.3 second ===> 0.00469 second
# ISO Speed Ratings = 50
(As previous image is already bad, so i decided to set the ISO at 50 and put it on stable surface!)
# Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 59/10 ===> ƒ/5.9
# Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 10/1160 second ===> 1/116 second ===> 0.00862 second
# ISO Speed Ratings = 145
Back to auto settings and had a zoom shot. Oh! This was taken on a stable surface too!
The only great thing about this Nikon over C901 is it has 3x optical zoom! That's all!

Nice comparision allthough I think there's much more to it.
I too like the first outdoors shot taken with C901. Really good one!

Initially, the comparison wasnt planned at all,
It just happens I had both cameras at the same time,
will do a better one-to-one comparison next time!
just to tell you that,
I spent twice the time handling the S200 to get it's best shot,
with C901, well... i just simply point and shoot! |
