I've had this k850i for 2 years now and everything was going swimmingly until 2 months ago when I accidentally sat on it and the screen cracked. I bought a new screen off eBay and found a forum that explained how to open the phone and replace the screen. The phone worked fine and the screen was perfect and then all of a sudden today i've had my first BROD. The battery had drained out and the phone had switched off and I didn't have my charger last night so I charged it this morning but now it won't turn on, it's just stuck at BROD and the keypad light and blue ring stay on.

I've been though millions of forums all morning trying to figure out how to fix this but I'm a tech novice and can't understand most of the terms like flashing it and K850i FS and stuff like that. I downloaded and installed SEUS and tried to get the software updated but my computer isn't recognizing my phone, after connecting my phone to the USB Cable Unrecognized USB device pops up and SEUS can't detect my software.

Can some one please be kind enough to help me through this painstakingly annoying process step by step.

Cheers!

OK i just tried connecting my phone again only due to sheer frustration. Earlier when I connected the cable with the cancel button my computer wouldn't detect it but now the power button on my phone has a red light and somehow Update Service has found my phone and i can update the software. The only issue is backing up my contacts - I obviously cannot move anything onto the sim coz my phoen won't start, is there anyway like PC Suite or something that I can backup my contacts before I update the software?

There's no way of retrieving your contacts.. Flashing your phone will delete all contacts, phone messages and installed apps...

since you yourself admitted that you're just a "tech novice", you should've just brought it to the nearest service center to have the cracked screen repaired. unless of course, you're the experimental type that's got lotsa money to burn.

save yourself the trouble and buy another handset. besides, the k850 really has a nasty reputation here. it's not worth the headache. hope you were able to backup your contacts via pc suite or thru the external memory card.

I did take the cracked screen to a repair place but i didn't have the $220 they told me it would cost and then one day i was on ebay and thought of just checking how much a screen costs and then it all unfolded.

I couldn't backup my contacts with PC suite and i really need my phone so I went ahead with the updater but something seemed to have gone wrong and the thing stopped. It could be that my phone ran out of battery so I'm charging it again and I'll try after an hour. I know the K850 doesn't have the best reputation here but I had nothing to complain about for the past 2 years until today.

Thanks anyways..keeping my fingers crossed for the next attempt to work

Ok thanks to the new user spam blocker in esato i couldn't post another message yesterday.

I tried several times to install the new software with SEUS and every 10 minutes there seemed to be a problem and the download and installation would stop. After I think 8 attempts, it has finally worked and I disconnected my phone from the USB cable and left it to charge. Now a completely new problem has arisen. I tried turning on my phone and it goes past the BROD this time but now my screen isn't lighting up. The keypad works and I could even make a call but the screen is just blank. I doubt the screen is spoilt coz before the BROD happened for the first time it was working fine. Is there some sort of driver or other installation I need to do or is it just that my phone is now a complete utter brick?

When it rains it pours eh?

hmm, i don't really know how to flash it. I wouldn't be surprised if I would need a new LCD either coz the current one is a $15 China made eBay purchase but heck I got my $15 out of it. Service center here I come
