Well that depends - if I unlock my iphone now and stick another sim in it, I'll be paying someone else for data and calls, but I'll also still be paying O2 for the next 6 months under the terms of my contract. They get my money, but don't have to provide the same service - the constant demands my iPhone makes for data will be someone else's problem.

At the end of my contract, when I look to upgrade, who knows - maybe I'll be hearing great things about O2's new "faster" network, and looking more kindly on them since they unlocked my phone...

(note - in reality I'm still quite happy to stick with O2)

@Boinng, I'll gladly give up the O2 bandwidth I've been using. Using tmob is like having a new phone. None of the data stagnation I have seen so much of before, including the minute or more wait before it decides there's no coonection despite showing a full signal bar and 3G icon! And I have almost 100% coverage on my commute as oposed to about 75% with O2.

Perhaps I should give Orange a go too

Mmmm thats O2 for you lets just hope Orange have invested enough to keep the network chugging along nicely when everyone starts using an iphone. And I see your point on the unlocking

@masseur - are you in/around London at the mo? From the sounds of things O2's data network is just being swamped in urban areas. Here in the sticks it's certainly not great (and rarely if ever 3G) but for me it has the killer advantage of an actual connection, which Orange and T-Mobile often lack! I can see me going back to Vodafone in time though, since they seem to have the coverage and the data sorted.

I live near Gatwick and commute through London Bridge to near Moorgate.
O2 is fairly useless in all these areas

When i said i have never encountered problems on Orange. Well i dont know if this is temporary but all this evening its taken longer than normal to connect Never ever had this and i am worried its the shape of things to come with the iphone out. I hope not. For some reason its taking longer for a page to load and for the globe to appear at the top of the screen showing connection. Surely it cant start as this bad on the iphone 3rd day? I am thinking the iphone is now going to start crippling networks

edit: Ok false alarm its all normal again now

Loving mine, not a single glitch. Reliable. 3G does make battery life last considerably less though. But worth the sacrifice me thinks

Well on Orange if one is locked then so will the others be Perhaps this unlocking code thing with O2 came too late when Orange had already released theirs
