Hello not sure if you can help. My 3UK Huawei e220 USB modem all of a sudden has started to disconnect itself without warning. Signal is fine & the connection light is still on plus menus still showing. But every half hour or so it just disconnects. It blinks on screen for one second before going off. Any ideas? Could it be the modem software gone crazy? I don't think its a network problem. Is there somewhere I can possibly update its firmware for free? If not guess its just a new one. Thanks

You should ring 3, after all, it's their responsibility, especially if it is new

Have you tried using a different USB port?
Have you checked the power settings for the USB ports in the device manager to make sure that windows is not switching the modem off?
Have you checked all the settings in the software that manages the modem?
Have you checked the settings in Windows > Network Connections > your 3G connection?
Have you tried putting the SIM card into a and connecting via 'phone as modem' using the same USB port?

I used to connect via a Huawei e220 branded as a Vodem fron Vodafone NZ but it stopped working correctly. It dropped down to 350kbps instead of the 1.5Mbps that was available which my V640i could receive. I currently use a Vodem Stick (Huawei 3520) which works fine after 10 months usage. Have you checked out SE's range of USB Modems? If you were going to purchase a replacement, these would be worth a look.

Oh ok will check all that later cheers. Its actually on my brothers new Packard Bell pc which is a rubbish pc although its new. The modem is quite old now which leads me to believe its faulty because it started doing it all of a sudden. We had not altered anything so its very odd.
