Hi guys,

my w910i was stolen a week ago, and my phone insurance company have sent me a w395 as a replacement. My first impressions aren't great at all - smaller screen, and looks like a kid's phone. Am I right in assuming that the w910i, despite not being the greatest phone on earth, is better than this new w395? If so, I'm going to be getting back onto the insurance people and demanding a new w910i. Thanks for the help!

You should at least demand a W595

Absolutely ask for a W595.

Tell them you need 3G like your old W910 not 2.5G as in the W395.
What a cheek downgrading you like that. I've claimed on insurance a couple of times and had a V800 replaced with a V630i, and the V630i replaced by a V640i. Those were a reduction in retail price from phone to phone but a increase in features each time.

Years ago I had a Philips Azalis go missing and insurance gave me a Nokia 3210. I never even opened the box, just rang them straight away and told them I was not interested. They arranged for me to take it in to a Vodafone store and swap it.

w910i is in a different league than w395.
back in 2007, w910 is a flagship product
with w395, they are replacing your once flagship w910 with a low-mid end one

at least demand a mid-high end phone.
w760 or w705

That won't work. You can only argue comparable features - such as 3G.

You should try to get a better replacement. W395 is not good enough, compared to W910.

w395 has 2.5g only while w910 has 3.5g
at least w760 and w705 are in the same boat as w910

@crossmatched

I agree with you 100%. I've tried to argue that my lost V800 was a premium phone (NZ$799 + $140 for a 512MB MSDP) and that it should be replaced by another premium $799 Sony Ericsson phone (K800i) but they said no and I ended up with a NZ$499 V630i and no reimbursement for the Memory card which was supposed to be included in the policy. They considered the V630 to be a step up from the V800 and the included 256MB M2 to make up for my lost MSDP but I considered it to be a step down, even though I grew to love that phone. All this on top of paying a $125 excess and $8 per month premium (now $10 per month for my iPhone).

What annoyed me was that a friend of mine managed some building work for Vodafone and they gave him a N95 and a gold Motorola K1 as a thank you. A week later he ran over the N95 in the ute and they replaced it without a 2nd thought. So jealous! It's definitely who you know not what you know!

Thanks for your advice guys...rang them up and told them I wasn't accepting the W395, they tried to argue that it was a comparable phone but soon relented. They refused to swap it for a w705, but agreed to courier me a w595 this Monday. Needless to say, I'll also be cancelling my insurance as of next month - bunch of chancers!
