I'm seriously considering giving the XPERIA a go. I currently have a C905 that I seem to have endless problems with.

Just a question, how big is the jump from a mobile phone, to a 'smart phone'? Anyone with an X1 that can give me some more info, ease of use, camera quality.. etc.

Your help will be very much appreciated

The difference is big i'd say. If you have a windows pc you will know how to handle it. Although there a few things you won't get used to quickly.

Yes, I have a windows PC.

I really want to try a smartphone, and XPERIA looks kind of fun.

It is fun, and a very good phone. I had one for a short while - then got the Android Google G1, imho the Android OS knocks WM into a cocked hat, as does a proper capacitative touchscreen rather than the normal resistive ones! I sold the Xperia shortly after getting the G1. That isn't to say the X1's a bad phone, it isn't at all, but for me is inferior to the newer OSs out now.

I'd say go for it, the X1 itself is a reliable phone (watch out for the odd qwerty keypad issue though) with a nice big, clear screen and great for web surfing on! And being a smartphone you can do a lot more with it than a 'dumb' phone!

You will find it hard to use the messaging interface with any windows mobile phone.
It is good, but it takes a few days to get used to it.
To me Xperia is the best phone I have ever used . The camera on it is brilliant.
The long stylus makes it easy to tap on the screen when compared to other HTC phones like the touch pro.

Thank you very much for the responses! My C905 should be back by the end of the week. I will see what repairs have been done. But I am very tempted by the X1 now.

Thank you again

I did the same change, from a c902 to a X1 a couple of weeks back, anyway here is what you need to know.

Cons-
-Camera takes very poor photos, photos are very blurry even though there is autofocus. The autofocus unit inside the X1 is different to any other one used in sony ericsson phones, there is a whole thread about the poor camera on Xda forums with pages of responses of poor camera.

-Poor video capture- I had hoped that with VGA video recording the video would be great (well great compared to the poor perfomance of SE phones). Unfortantley its not, playback is blurry and usually out of focus

-Poor flash- The flash light is poor to say the least, the room wont even light up with this mini light.

-Case issues- Nearly everyone who has a SILVER X1 have had problems with the case cracking, so get the black one. When the SE "fix" the problem it will happen again.

-Crap inteface- Unlogical interface with panels, not very fast, menus make no sense, too little input from SE to mask ugly wm interface.

Pros

-Looks good, and has a definate wow factor.

-(and thats it!)

If you keep youre X1 the same as is since purchase you will find you will hate this phone, it is crap to say the least. But when i discovered roms and the XDA forum, my view changed on the X1, i now think it is amazing. If you dont install roms there is really no point in buying the X1. If you look at the rom i use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=493848 it is amazing, this is the final rom so it has the least (if any bugs) bugs. The interface is just AMAZING, and the worst part of all this is that i dont use anything from SE, the panels are there but i havent installed any, nothing is SE all HTC.

Anyway the best part of the X1 is the ability to install roms, without it the X1 is a complete failure.
