Topic title was: iPod Classic Help?

My friend washed an iPod classic 80gb, All the electrics work fine and HDD whirs up (I can feel it) but the thing just boots to a Red Cross.

Ran diagnostics mode and the device can't find the HDD.

What are my options before I open the thing up? Its well out of warranty too

(I've tried disk mode, it won't eter it though.)

Cheers

Open it up and dry the HD contacts/connector , leave it all open for a few days to properly dry out you might get lucky

Ive heard if you put it in a sealed bag with some rice (or the silica crystals that a lot of electronics come with) it creates a little dehumidifier and drys things out. The rice (or crystals) soak up all the water in the sealed bag. Hope you get it fixed

In case the disk is fried you can order one from the bay, get a so called ZIF drive. They're not cheap, but its prolly cheaper than buying a new iPod.
